It was a silly thing to say. I am not a fan of NPR, but I agree with their decision.Cliff Notes: Juan Williams has a gig with NPR. Makes a statement on the O'Reilly Factor that when he see's a Muslim on an airplane he gets a bit scared. You're Fired! Whoops

Saying something like that is a sign of ignorance. I haven't looked into the story yet but I would have a hard time justifying keeping someone that ignorant on my payroll.
Edit: Williams says his dismissal is "a chilling assault on free speech". There's another sign of ignorance.....free speech means you can say anything you like. It doesn't isolate you from the possible consequences of saying whatever it is you said. I cannot be imprisoned by the government merely for saying stupid things (unless I'm at the airport!), but I might lose a job because of it....
But poor ol' Williams......should we really feel bad for him?
Meanwhile, Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes announced Thursday that Williams has been signed to an expanded role with the network in a multiple-year deal.
"Juan has been a staunch defender of liberal viewpoints since his tenure began at Fox News in 1997," Ailes said in a written statement. "He's an honest man whose freedom of speech is protected by Fox News on a daily basis."
The Los Angeles Times reported that Williams got a three-year contract worth nearly $2 million that will involve more frequent appearances on the network and a column on FoxNews.com.
And if he really is skeered of anyone who "looks Muslim", then he is as ignorant as the white people I grew up with that were afraid of all black people. They were sure that all blacks were somehow under the secret control of mysterious Malcolm X types that wanted white people dead....
And someone please tell O'Reilly that, in spite of his rhetoric to the contrary, terror attacks are at a 30 year low.
So, I guess if you want to get fired from a liberal show (and make more money in the process), say you're afraid of Muslims. :up:Last edited by mar1t1me; 10-21-2010, 06:32 PM.Comment

so any of you are saying that if you board a plane and see someone dressed up in the Muslim garb, you don't think twice about it even for a brief second?
If you say no, you are lying to yourself!
Williams also stated in the same program that, we should not classify Muslims as terrorist.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend:
Muslims - enemy of US
Liberals - enemy of US
US - hated by liberals and Muslims
Juan is just another example of the left eating themselves. Juan will be fine though. I read his book "Enough," and I was like "finally, a smart black dude wrote a book about how black people are ruining their own culture." Hey his words not mineComment

Well, it doesn't occur to me. I travel lots, too. There are something like 35,000 flights in the US alone everyday. 12.5 million a year.... Hardly ever any trouble of any kind. Quit being such chickenshits, people!
It is absolutely beyond ridiculous to be afraid of a "Muslim looking" person on a plane.
And then O'Reilly stated:
"I gotta be careful; I have to qualify everything 50 times," O'Reilly said. "You know what, Juan? I'm not doing that anymore. I'm not doing it any more. I will say Muslim terrorists, but I'm not going to say -- oooh! -- it's only a few, it's only a tiny bit. It's not, Juan. It's whole nations -- Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, whole nations."
I'd say he just classified Muslims as terrorists....

Anyone with any sense would get nervous with Muslims in garbs on their plane. Your an idiot if you don't, ii think it's called human nature. It's not racism, bigotry, or intolerance to different cultures, it's just plain common sense. Enough of the politically correct, bunny-hugging, "let's not hurt anyone's feelings but our own" crowd.
DO we have to keep reminding you morons that it was bunch of Muslim thugs that attacked us on 9/11 and declared war on us, it was a Muslim that perpetrated the attacks at Fort Hood killing 13 soldiers, it was also a Muslim that tried to blow up time square... it goes on and on and on ..You DEMN! right Americans have every reason to feel be scared/nervous around them.
Am much as there're thousands of muslim in the U.S that are peacful and just like any normal person out there, but too bad crazy exteremists has hijack their religion. And thats freaking reality and the world we live in today whether you want to accept it or not.Comment

Fact: there have been over 102,000,000 commercial flights in the US since 9/11. That's right: over 102 MILLION flights! Many, many more worldwide.
Fact: not a single American has died as a result of an attack by a Muslim garbed person on any one of those flights.
Data trumps emotional responses based on ignorant fear of "the other".
In other words, where are the scary Muslims who are supposedly bent on world domination? What are they waiting for? Terror attacks at 30 year low and you're scared?
Do you people need your hand held when you cross the street? You have a greater chance of dying while doing that than ever being killed by a terrorist attack in the US. Especially while on a plane.
The entirety of Indonesia is Muslim, yet they welcome non-Muslim tourists from all over the world and do not seem bent on getting to the US to start a bunch of shit. Why not? After all, they're MUSLIMS.
Really think you can tell Christian from Muslim by dress?

This Orthodox Ethiopian Christian might find your assumptions insulting.
How about these people?

Two things I think would be great for the US: Mandatory pre-college military service and some time spent traveling the world. Clear up a lot of ridiculous shit right there.Comment

The de-funding of NPR is long overdue. They have more than enough support to stand on their own, and without our tax dollars they can say and do as they please.
I've asked many of my left-leaning friends who listen regularly what they think of the broadcasts and most were quick to praise their factual and unbiased reporting (along with the BBC). I gave it a listen for a couple months. Unfortunately, I could not agree.Comment
