    Interesting GW whackiness

Regardless of one's position on Global Warming, ya just gotta love this one:

A Republican seeking to chair the House Energy committee explains why devastating climate is impossible

Video of his comments (never mind the goofy subtitles)

He says Global Warming can't happen because GOD promised not to smite the Earth again after the "Great Flood"....

Never mind our current pollution issues aren't godmade......

I suppose this nutcase thinks meteor impact, or super-volcano explosion are impossible as well....or would he call those "an act of God"?

^^^An elected official states his belief that God will protect us from Global Warming (and apparently all other manner of threat) because of something mentioned in Genesis.

Do you not find that troubling?

I consider it an affront to logic and reason and a total loss of objectivity.

You've missed the point if you think that he was saying "God will protect us from global warming".

Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying and think he's being a bit naive to say the least. I find it troubling that of all the stupid, illogical, lack of objectivity things people do (especially those in "power" or "control" of this Country) you're concerned that this dude doesn't truly believe that the world will cataclysmically end by Man's hand alone and his personal beliefs, trust and faith, lay more in the hands of God than Man.

I believe what he said was incredibly short sighted to say in regards to people immedietly having instant "fire power" if you will, against his professional credentials. Nor do I even know where or what he said was in relation too. The article posted is a tad vague. Nor do I think the Energy Policy position has much to do with the end of the world.

he is full with in his rights to believe this, that is his prerogative.

I think its stupid as well, but you know what..............

You and Lee both always try to put yourselves on the Moral and Intellectual superiority Pedestal, any time anyone with any type of religious views come up in the news No matter how far out there or main stream those views are. You guys do the same shit to those with religious views, that devout Muslims do non Muslims and women, what many of the "holiest" of the crazy evangelicals think of those that dont think like them. You are no fucking different any one that seems to believe in god is just stupid and scary to you and should not hold a public off CUZ THEY DONT THINK LIKE YOU.

That said you two bring a bad name to anyone that shares the lack of belief of the magic man in the sky. While trying to put your self on high for your enlightened world view that god is a myth, you consistently pull the very same shit those that believe do to those of us that dont think like them.

Yes I dont believe in the man in the sky either, but you know what I dont hold it against anyone that dose (until they prove they are full blown fools time and again on more than just religious points ) You guys write someone off as soon a Jesus comes into the picture. Oh the hypocrisy of the narrow minded.

Speaking of MYTHS Human Induced or Accelerated Global Warming ........................errrr, shit I mean.......................Climate Change falls in to Magic guy in the sky kinda MYTH, it takes as much FAITH to buy into one as it dose the other.

Separation of Church and State is all that needs to be said. A leader of a country that abides by such a rule has to realize the limits of his own beliefs to the policies that will affect millions.

Very funny. Anyone using a bit of its brains would pick logic and common sense over mytholgy and fairy tales. It's really not complicated. Anyone can do it. You should try too .

I'm not going to get into the Religion Vs. Non-Religion Religion debate.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, just show some class and respect and there's no problems. You demean, criticize and insult others for no reason besides you're own beliefs, it only shows you as you are. Anyone adhearing to this stand point should re-evaluate themselves a bit. No reason for it beyond blind bigotry and hatred. So, you want to talk about being tolerant? Try it sometime before preaching it.

I am more tolerant than you know. HOWEVER, I will not tolerate someone using an elected office to spout one's personal mythology as basis for action or inaction. You might as well consult a hole in the ground and call it an Oracle as consult a God.

I expect policy decisions to be based on what is best for all those involved and to be based in fact, not conjecture or some interpretation of religious text.

And you are dead wrong, at least with regards to me, about writing someone off that mentions Jesus. It's how they mention it.

                    A. Jesus was a man who really taught some great lessons about how to treat each other. He was an advocate for social justice and accountability, and was generally tolerant, patient and kind. He challenged established ways of thought and encouraged personal growth.

                    B. Jesus is my personal Savior and loves me and listens to my prayers and is going to take me to Heaven when the Rapture occurs, which will be within my lifetime. All I need do is have faith in Him.

One is, in my opinion, reasonable. The other is based in 100% fantasy. And that's a fact. There's a reason mankind has needed to invent 40,000+ gods for himself through the years. We can't stand the idea that this mess we've made is our own. We'd way rather say this is the will of a supreme being. But sorry folks. Nobody there. And when politicians start invoking ghosts, well then my tolerance runs out.

You inferred I am a believer in GW. I know enough about Earth history to know that there have been many climatological shifts through the years that predate the Industrial Age. I don't buy that it's human kind's fault. But to use that fact to justify to continue using resources in wasteful ways because we don't think it will kill us is just fuckin' stupid. People are this planet's biggest problem because we don't self-regulate. We just make more, use more, and pollute more, while continuing to breed unabated.

edit: My apologies then, Just the way you come off consistently gives the impression that I laid out earlier. While I dont disagree with you entirely ( the guy is a fool, and basing his stance on the wrong shit) it not my place to tell him he is wrong, or judge him solely this one action or view point is a little hasty dont you agree????

While I am against legislated morality as you are, this will get no traction at all, and will be shut down post haste, and really is not a big enough deal to get your panties in a wad over (the guy is and idiot remember).

                      WRONG

Separation of church and state ONLY MEANS that the state can not endorse or force one brand of religion over another!!!!!! In laymans teams No law can be passed that you must be a Christian or jew to VOTE, or that only believers of a particular faith are eligible for a state funded program or benefit, or are denied solely on such a belief either.

Our govt was/is set up too be hands off, and the bulk of the power to remain in the hands of the people not the govt legislating every aspect of our lives. Your sense of good conduct and handling of disputes were supposed to be done at the local level, IE you and your neighbors. Your faith (AKA Morality) is supposed to work hand in hand with the govt to allow maximum freedoms for the people and the govt to remain small and not as over bearing.

In reality our Republican government was designed to work very much hand in hand with faith. A fact that has been long written outta the history books and quickly being forgotten.

Who cares what he thinks, that dose not disqualify him for running or even serving in a public capacity. Now coming out with this kinda view may make it impossible to get elected to such a capacity as the rest of the electorate may write him off as a fool, but it dose not disqualify him in any way, other than in the minds of voters.

Now Lee just as you put your faith in the what can be proven by science ( I do as well) there is a lot there that has been to be taken on as much faith as the magic man in the sky. I unlike you on the other hand support others rights to believe in what they wish, so long as they are not harming me, thats how the USA system is set up too work. You are so quick to jump on the Logical high ground you are willing to trounce other rights because they dont fall in line with your logic. How is that any different than the evangelicals telling us we are wrong for jerking off, or dancing to Disco music ??????????

I feel bad for your kids if you have any. That's a poor worldview to pass along to them.

The fact that you keep saying Mythology is insulting and intolerant. Ironically, you're an intolerant, bigoted person much like many a Christian. You think you have the answers, then enlighten the world. The fact (you like to claim those a lot) is that you don't "know". Nobody does. You can speculate and have faith, but you don't know despite how much you emphatically dismiss, insult, demean and in general have no tolerance for other's worldviews.

Im right and wrong. No where does it say the President has to be neutral regarding religion but what I was trying to say is that his decisions should be. That indeed he must let go of his own bias because any responsible man as President would have to realize he doesn't just represent the voice from his own beliefs. I will add that the last sentence only goes so far.

Are you saying that science is intolerable? Reading his posts makes me believe that he relies, no matter how minuscule our understanding is, on science.

If Science figured that got existed then it would be something that he would be more open about. What you keep missing is that it doesn't work the other way around.

Right and partially this is where you FAITH and MORALITY is supposed to kick in that you do what is best for your fellow man ALL OF THEM not just those that like your flavor of god. All religion preach this do good unto all man kind, but teach those that think different are not really the chosen ones like you. This is the double edged sword that cuts both ways and why people need to be free to make their own way and the truly good leaders know where that line is
