I'll bite since I am 25 and completely agree with you. I believe one of the biggest problems my age group has is a complete lack of a work ethic. Almost everyone I graduated high school with is either still in school or finished and not working yet. Very few have careers, families or really anything of significance in their lives. Whether people are intelligent or simple minded, it doesn't matter, with no drive in their lives they will all go nowhere.

I go somewhere like Target and you can see exactly why my generation is a failure, the workers can barely handle simple tasks like saying hello to you when you get up to the checkout. I fully realize that job sucks having worked in retail but they do get money in exchange for doing that job, the least they could do it earn it.

Because they don't really need to. Government to the rescue.
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Do you guys think "this generation" (defined as <25, I guess?) is really all that different from generations prior? That it's not a cycle?

Most middle-aged+ people since the beginning of time thinks the world is going to shit and that young people are lazy and have a false sense of entitlement. Our parents said it about us, their parents said it about them, and "we're" saying it now. And the age difference you bring into question is a bit crazy, no? Is there really that big of a difference between <1980 and the mid-late '80's?

You sound like ornery old men. Young people often lack direction and motivation - but they grow up.

I'd like to know why he says this generation is no better educated than our parents. There was arguably a "college boom" within the past generation or two. Though I'd still say they're far from impressive, 6-year (bachelor's) graduation rates went from 52.2% in 1997 to 55.9% in 2008 in the US. But costs of higher education are increasing much more than inflation, making it an unattainable goal for those who can't afford it. So maybe there's a bit more to it than "young people are lazy."
