Not to mention that most farmers don't break even, and end up taking out huge loans from Farm Bureaus, just to pay the interest on the loan from the previous harvest. That he had to take a loan out on to pay for the loans on the pivots to water the land.

My father in-law is an Ohio farmer. I know the drill.

He will complain mightily about how screwed up the system is and how Big Ag gets far more money while actually profitable, all the while using their riches to undercut smaller operators. He's also pretty pissed about how Walmart gets property tax breaks that aren't available to farmers.

Not to mention about how subsidies aren't paid to US fruit growers. Wouldn't want to piss off our big fruit growing neighbors now would we?

He is against subsidies as they currently stand. Broken system. And don't get him started on usurious banks, either.

With that said, I F'N HATE ethanol corn subsidies with a passion; sorghum, bent grass, and algae are where its at for ethanol.

Fruit is not needed to sustain life. Grain is a different story.

Well at least you know what hard work is!

BTW, if I'm not mistaken you are a fisherman. Fisherman can also get subsidies... if you are commercial.

E30E, very cool. How far are you from Phoenix?

Palin is a waste of time. While I would vote for her over Obama any day of the week she's lost her credibility with me. She doesn't have to comment on EVERYTHING that happens in our fucking country. And she's got to stop with the retarded (yes I said it about her) comments like "mother grizzly" for Christ's sake!

I do spend a lot of time on boats for sure, and spent a few summers on fishing rigs.... but now, I mainly getting sent all over the place to help people find things that don't necessarily want to be found underwater. ;)

We can also find things on the ocean floor that people want to be found. I used to run the stuff, but it's actually pretty boring-monitoring systems that listen and sorting through the falses....it's way more fun to teach. When you have more people under you reporting back, you get a better idea of the idiosyncrasies of all the gear.

Anyway, I'd like to see some serious subsidy reform based on actually protecting smaller farmers. The big guys are flush with cash and no longer need public largess, but they get most of it. But Bachmann was all to happy to take the money, while decrying government spending. Can't have it both ways, lady.

BTW, I think maybe it would've been fun to watch Palin lose her mind because the Congress and Senate both wouldn't play ball with her-they have their own interests to protect. All the smarmy winking in the world wouldn't help......

I live in the Suburbs when I'm not on the road working. Had I lived in the Midwest I would of taught Ag.
