sleeve, you know all of the advantages of electric still apply to 4x4's, SUV's, and ESPECIALLY trucks. Imagine all of that 0rpm torque to just rip a stump right out of the ground.
Sales of the GM Volt.

yeah sure I do, but until you can recharge the damn thing from a small solar panel on the roof or other portable power generation system in a 20 mins they will never be appropriate for places like where I live. Where you can travel a 80 miles on a Main "highway" and not see a fuel station, or when you take that short cut over the mountain in the summer time and find out the Forest Service has not opened the gate at the top yet. Or like where we are considering buying a home that is 60ish miles from the nearest fuel station but a 2 hour drive due to the road most of the way and off the power grid, (oddly more expensive than similar homes much closer to civilization). (I dont have to show up to work locally every day) How is my EV going to do that in the fucking winter time
Next I show me a 600 Ft/lb Electric motor, that will lug a 5600LB truck, tied to a 18,000+ Lb loaded horse trailer, up the mountain into the back country about 40 miles and about and to 4k-6k feet vertical feet above sea level at 3-10mph, and back out again in 1 charge. I can do that on 1 tank dino juice (diesel flavored), and can easily carry more if needed I stop, pour (outta 1 of my old school NON CARB approved Jerry cans ) and I am off like a dirty shirt in less than 3 mins. Not wait 5 days for a trickle charge from the sun. Also Other than Caterpillar I have yet to see a EV that is built very heavy duty, they all seem to be built light as shit to accommodate the weight of the batteries.
Look, the little shit boxes have their place, for those that think they need them in a urban environment. 100 years ago the EV sold nearly as many units as the Gas powered ones. They died then for the same reasons they are still impractical now, nothing has really changed in the last 100 years.Last edited by mrsleeve; 08-07-2011, 07:23 PM.The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

I got another one for ya:

Seems like hybrid/electric vehicles work GREAT when your vehicle is already half electric, and you DGAF about a few extra tons of weight.

General Motors has repeatedly claimed a sales target for 2011 of 10,000 units for the plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt sedan. But, nine months into the year, they’ve only shipped 3,895 off the lot. In fact, in September sales numbers, released an hour ago, GM sold only 723 Volts. Will GM fail to meet its own sales predictions?
jalopnik
To be fair, GM has claimed that sales would falter during the summer because of a pre-planned shutdown of the automaker’s Hamtramck assembly plant. But, it was thought by most analysts that GM would have already swallowed that hiccup and by September we’d see higher sales. Despite more than doubling last months sales, we somehow don’t think 723 units sold this past month is what one would consider massive sales momentum — especially given this summer’s anemic numbers. And that’s not to say there aren’t any Volts on dealer lots. Cars.com shows over 2,600 units available in a nationwide search of new vehicle listings.
To give you an idea of how few vehicles that is, here are just a few of the GM vehicles that sold better than the Chevy Volt this month:
Cadillac Escalade – 1,527
Chevrolet Colorado Pickup – 2,171
Chevrolet Avalanche – 1,861
Chevrolet Suburban – 5,246
Buick Lucerne – 1,068
That last car, the Buick Lucerne, is even more ironic considering it’s made on the very same assembly line as the Chevy Volt — yet the Buick-for-blue-hairs still managed to sell almost 50 percent more units this past month.
723 Volts sold last month. Hey it's BETTER.
The best part is in bold. Although I suspect it's a bit less than that.Last edited by joshh; 10-04-2011, 03:23 PM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Article in the paper today, Volt will be available in Cleveland later this month. With Ohio this brings it up to 27 states it's actually available in.
I'm not sure what the problem is, how do they expect to sell anything like this?sigpic

I suspect your being sarcastic. Talking with my local Chevy dealer there's a ton of intrest but the price is the killer. As you already know.
Very good point. I think they will sell even worse there.Last edited by joshh; 10-06-2011, 05:41 PM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
