No offense but it sounds like you are. Unless you are loaded up with muscle mass 200 is a bit chunky for 5'10. Fat doesnt weight shit comparatively so there is a lot more of it just to make up 15lbs.

That is probably the other issue with people being overweight. Deniers. Sure the BMI is a shitty guesstimate and doesn't take into account health factors or variables but it seems that being chunky is considered the new norm and fat is 300+.

Zack Thomas 5' 11" 242 lbs. Pro football player is considered morbidly obese according to BMI. Even if he stopped playing and only worked out enough to stay fit he'd never drop much below 200 lbs.
I am currently heavier than 200lbs but even in great shape I would not be able to drop much below that. It's just the way some people are built.

Ive already said BMI is bullshit, ive moved on from that. My point was only that, regardless of BMI, that the average person (read not loaded with muscle mass) @ 5'10 and 245 is fat.

What percentage of body fat do you both possess? That is why I put that muscle mass caveat in there. Most people don't share shit in common with professional athletes. Most of them sit in the 6-10% range while most Americans are hitting 25%. Muscle, being far more dense than fat, will make a person who is fit at 245 be one way while someone else, whose 1/4th of that is fat is going to be holding on to a LOT of fat.

And its very easy to get below 200lbs. With a persons current habits that keep them at 245 no, whether it be lots of hours at the gym or sitting on their asses. In the end it all comes down to fuel. No matter what the situation the only way you retain body fat is if you consume more than your body uses. For muscle you still have to consume enough to build the muscle and support it during use.

It's very easy for people with small frames that have a lot of fat and not so much naturally occurring muscle (daily routine and normal exercise) to get below 200. For some, muscle retention is much better than others. I'll leave it at that. We agree the cookie cutter of BMI is a false indicator of heath and muscle mass.

5 in a 100? In contrast to what 20 years ago? Is there a point to that statistic? Is it higher or lower?

                            Wow...this thread went nuts.

To those who argue that we should tax the overweight - I'd like to make a counterpoint. In terms of food availability, the odds are stacked against the poor. Drive over across the train tracks and you'll find every type of fast food, low quality resturants and crap grocery stores like wal-mart that sell inexpensive, high-margin low-quality foods. The reason is food subsidies. So by taxing the overweight you're basically creating a circular reference where their taxed monies continue to pay for the cheap crops that our govt subsidizes. My healthcare solution is this: let the free market determine food prices rather than driving them down with incentives. Right now I can go buy a flame broiled burger with bacon and cheese for less than an organic orange. How the hell do you expect the poor to be thin? To add insult to injury their healthcare is covered by medicaid - whos reimbursement rates are BELOW COST for hospitals. That's right, hospitals lose money when they see a medicaid patient. The entire system is broken - it's not just healthcare.

It's much, much higher than it's ever been. In fact the rate is growing exponentially and no one really knows why. The scientific consensus is that it's something in our environment that is becoming more prevalent and/or concentrated but no one knows what yet. Something in our food? or the air? The extremely rapid growth rate rules out genetics but no research has yet been able to pin down a cause, and there is a lot of mis-information out there such as the vaccine scandal and such. I had an ex-gf who said it was caused by Purel hand sanitizer because that stuff "makes your BAC spike when you use it because it's absorbed through your skin"... yeah, like Purel makes you drunk
