2) The Fairtax would not cut taxes, it actually provides the same amount of funding as the current tax structure. For Medicaid/Medicare/SS everything, the main point is that it simplifies the tax code by leaps and bounds.
But it dramatically reduces the need for the IRS, tax lawyers and trickery since it's just a national sales tax. So your income, savings, investment/real estate earnings.
So basically the thousands and thousands and thousands of pages of tax law is reduced to a national sales tax, which would need to be approx 23%. But of course you're still subject to local/county/city sales tax. For most people, it averages out to a 30% sales tax on all goods purchased.
But the flattax/Fairtax will never happen, because right now the politicians use the tax code for reward and punishment. It's too powerful for them to ever give up.
