I like how you first heard about this guy 15 minutes ago and now you're passing such harsh judgement. This guy organized impoverished workers into unions so that they could get better living and working conditions. What have you done with your life besides argue on the internet?

I agree with your view on Cesar Chavez LB, he was a great man who accomplished good things in his time. However, USN ships are named in a specifically traditional way. They are named after states, cities, naval and marine battles, presidents and medal of honor winners from the naval services. Submarines have been named after certain fish. ( http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/names.htm ) . 43 latino service members have been awarded the medal of honor. Including 2 sailors and 13 marines. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...nor_recipients ) . I have to agree with MrSleeve however that it be would proper to honor one or more of them with a ship name instead.Comment

So he confused the two guys and that means he doesn't know who either of them are....then you accuse him of trying to argue on the internet.,,,lol. HYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Becasue those ships go all over the world and are a representation of the USA. The name on the fucking side of the boat is one of the biggest impressions and the 1st impression of not only the ship, but its crew, and the nation as a whole.
Cesar Chavez IS NOT SOME ONE YOU WANT to be representative of the USA abroad as its counter to nearly everything we stand for
Dont worry.
No one else knows who the fuck you're talking about :psigpicComment

I am not fully versed on UFW other than know they were organized in the 60's with some questionable ties to the radical commies of the time.
I know Chavez was suspected to be behind some fires at a few bigger farms. Was against letting more immigrants in to keep strikes going. Did not give 2 shits about the ranch hands of the west of the farm hands of the mid west, just the illegals there in SoCal. I dont see him as champion of the little guy and fighting for them to have better life, his anti immigration stance is proof in that pudding. He was a thug sitting on top of the pile of a claimed 50k useful idiots, used them to get his way.
No h0lmes I have known of both these guys for much longer than 15 min. Just fell victim to a brain fart this am when I posted this. Also am vague on the UFW as its been a very very long time since I have read anything that had to do with themOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

I understand you, me, anyone will not agree with all of his policies and practices, but I'd hardly call him a 'shitbag'. He certainly did more to help people and improve their lives than 99% of Americans do during their lives. Did he help every single farm worker across the nation directly? Of course not, that's impossible. But to suggest he's a shitbag because he focused his efforts on the areas where he lived and worked to prevent illegal immigration... c'mon, really? I know you're not a fan of his politics, I'm not necessarily either. But credit where credit is due.
I don't think it's helpful to accuse someone of being a fire-bombing terrorist without anything to back it up. Again, I realize you don't agree with his policies, but that's hardly grounds to make stuff up or even just exaggerate. I don't like Sarah Palin, but I would never claim she splits open newborn babies from crotch to skull and eats their still-beating heartsComment

compared and contrasted with how Cesar Chavez dealt with violence as his UFW organizers often made use of strong-arm tactics against field workers in California's Central and Coachella Valleys. One field organizer said he remembers seeing 'loyal Chavez followers bash the heads of reluctant field laborers.' He said the organizers 'visited the fields, intimidating peasants with threats and violence.' Despite the public persona as a man of peace and nonviolence, Chavez did or said little to reign in the violence, which may explain why it's difficult to find farm workers who have anything good to say about him or the UFW. In fact, labor leaders who lead non-UFW farm worker associations hotly dispute the notion that Chavez or the UFW ever represented their views and challenge what they see as 'mythology' surrounding Chavez."
Hicks will appear before Congress as someone intimately familiar with the organizing work and the tactics of the UFW and its leader, Cesar Chavez. During the 1970s, the height of the UFW's efforts to organize field workers throughout the Southwest, Hicks was left-wing political activist. In 1976, Hicks spent time in the then-Soviet Union and was a member of the Communist Party USA. Hicks was in the company of Chavez on several occasions, interacted with his organizers on a routine basis and trained UFW activists in "revolutionary theory" classes.
