How soon will we have a police state? Free speech

One of these girls is from code pink...as much as I hate that, these cops were in the wrong. It's pretty simple actually. The police turned this into something that was unnecessary. They weren't disturbing anyone and weren't even carrying signs. In fact few of them were even dancing.
I find it interesting that they also made everyone get out of the area. Most likely because of the cameras.
Can we please train cops so they can see the difference in real disturbances over people having free speech.

    Much closer than we think.

Kentucky V. King decided 2 weeks ago.

And so goes the 4th amendment the way of the Doo Doo.

When fucking Ginsburg (arguably one of the most liberal judges on the bench) says its a bad thing and says this. You know there is some real trouble

In her lone dissenting opinion, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg compares the Court's majority ruling to a police state: "The warrant requirement ranks among the 'fundamental distinctions between our form of government, where officers are under the law, and the police-state where they are the law.'" ... "In no quarter does the Fourth Amendment apply with greater force than in our homes, our most private space which, for centuries, has been regarded as 'entitled to special protection.'"

Screw the protesters. Resisting arrest and making a loud nuisance of themselves in the Jefferson Memorial! I don't want to see a bunch of PDA and dancing when I'm visiting that holy ground. What next, ultimate frisbee? How about a nice dance marathon at the American Cemetery at Normandy?

D-bags like this make me want to support some infringement of speech. Boo to the police for trying to threaten citizens who were quietly filming though.

^ that's part of freedom of expression.

you should be able to dance where ever you want to.

this video clearly demonstrates police state actions. why cant the cops tell them what law they would be charged with? dont they know their job? or do they just arrest people whenever they feel like it? im sure all the people arrested were detained for the weekend. the video went up. and then all the officers were told,"hey, you were doing your job. its ok. we'll cover the flak from this." and then they'll keep doing it. when it is quite obviously wrong.

im sure they were 100% legally arrested and detained. doesnt make it right.

True enough, I just wish they wouldn't trample on my rights to enjoy a solemn moment in a historied place of honor.

It was a clearly a demonstration. The courts have ruled that illegal. Is it constitutional? Doesn't seem so, and I feel there are far worse infringements of the constitution going on. This group strikes me as about as useful as the Westboro Baptist Church is in protecting the first amendment.

I blame Mary Brooke Oberwetter and her friends for even making this an issue. What prompted the midnight dance that led to the original 2008 arrest? Anybody know?

I have no issue with them making a statement like this. Yes they did it for a reason...because it's just plain silly you can't dance there. Free speech already has limitations. If we allow Westboro Baptist Church to protest the way they do, people dancing to make a point about free speech is all good with me.
What would have happened if the cops left them alone? They would have gone away and never cared to try the "stunt" again. The police made a point....to make an issue of it.

you shouldn't be allowed to be a police officer if giving a simple warning makes you nervous

my history teacher always said, "i may not agree with what you are saying, but i would fight to the death for you to have the righ to say it"

that always stuck with me. we are a free country. people SHOULD not fear demonstrating their beliefs or trying to make a difference.

im not saying i agree with these people btw. it is just blatantly obvious rights were ignored!

Screw 'em. I don't think they are helping prevent encroachment of our liberties. If they want to accomplish something, why don't they go to Detroit and demand justice for Aiyana Jones?

Still wondering if anyone knows anything about the 2008 case that prompted this?

                              joshh? Any idea?
