My god you are douche bag when it comes to this shit.

So you have 2 degrees, and next to NO real world experience, your world is black and white, flat and rectangular right.

You believe you should be paid solely on the amount of formal college or HS education you have, not on the quality of your work, the amount of experience you have in your field, your track record for getting shit done, etc... ?

Yeah just cuz they have a hard time reading those big ass fancy words, does not inhibit their ability to read the blue print do their job efficiently and well and fix your fuck ups on the fly and get the job done and make you look good in the process. They dont deserve a fair days pay for their efforts????

Kershaw, a college degree will not pay for itself many times over any more, in fact your degree in the long run will cost you in excess of 1/2 a million dollars now a days

Under prepared, under trained. I can count on all my fingers how many times college professors would say "you'll be a wanted and in demand person with your degree"......Set up there students for failure and false sense of success.

I don't think it's college professors that are setting students up for it. People have unrealistic expectations about their quality of life. Credit card debt in this nation is a good indicator of this. If you make under $15/hr, you don't get to have nine Loius Vuitton bags.

I would assume that the vast majority of those in line to receive a HS degree at least have SOME sort of idea of what they're interested in pursuing. If there were some way to efficiently facilitate providing students with some useful information regarding their possible career path, I'm all for it. A little investment in this will likely yield great social dividends. Requiring it, however, seems like expensive oversight and a beurocratic nightmare.

average cost in the usa for a public school $16,300 for in state $26,300 for outta state PER YEAR, room, board, books, tuition, all expenses

              lets use outta state

26,300 x 4 years = 105k for the degree lets assume you have loans to pay for it like most people

105k repaid at 6% = 35k in interest paid so now you have 140k in your undergrad

Add too that all the income you could have been making, and the compound interest you could be earning on 10% of that in a 401k started at 18 and Numbers, paid interest, and earned interest, and time are all conspiring against you

According to the US Census, a college degree yields nearly 100% more in lifetime earnings than a HS degree ($2.1m vs $1.2m). It would take some searching, but I'm sure most vocational degrees are near or equal to that of a college degree. Skilled union tradesmen make a damn good living.

yes us skilled tradesmen do make a damn good living

I will see if I can find the article I read just recently on this topic that shows the gap is much closer than it used to be and that with the cost of a college education going way the fuck up the last few years its barely worth it in many instances.

I am not saying college is not a a good thing, have never been of that mind set, just that for the vast majority of things there are better way to go about learning a industry, job or trade. College really is good for somethings, its just not the end all be all that we all have been led to believe for the last 50 years

I still often contemplate going back and getting into one of those specialized degrees and do what I really want to do, since finding a apprenticeship for it is all but impossible anymore. Its not that I dont see the need, just in many cased the value is not what it used to be

Hence why when I graduated from college, I looked for that and found it.

I see 200-300 credit apps a month and the number one cause of bad credit is student loans IMO. I have a 4 year degree in Finance and it has been very helpful in my career, but I wouldn't subject myself to the debt right now. I think in this economy I would want to keep my debt and monthly out going down as much as possible. The jobs just aren't there to substantiate taking on so much debt load in HOPES of getting a job.
