I'm bugged about so much design and manufacturing going on elsewhere. Within the next 20 years this country is going to be a big blob of non-productive idiots that can't figure out how to use their Chinese pocket knives to whittle a marshmallow roaster out of a stick.

    Agreed. This is a problem.

This. It took me forever to stick this in my old man's head. Only after when i graduated with my bachelors and ended up doing something completely unrelated but still somewhat technical did he realize how overhyped college is when one that has tangible skills and qualifications is a much better asset to society. Good thing he wasnt in denial because he was pushing me to get a Masters before i was even born

Politicians are trying to use laws to make these statistics change. Which is fucking pointless because they already know that 70% of students enroll within two years or so of HS. So why are they doing this?
You'd think they'd make more laws for trying to keep kids in high school. Oh wait they have...see Corvallis's thread...lol.

As for outsourcing, if it wasn't for American engineer's making manufacturing so great and easy to do then jobs wouldn't be shipped over sea's making products for us using our machines and a lot times materials from the U.S. Our advances are a double edged sword; the business/professional world moves 100 times faster than the education world. Hence why the people coming out of it get there ass kicked so easily when going into the "real" world. Under prepared and under trained.

Meh, I actually don't think that it sounds bad. All that it says is that it requires students to apply for college, or go to an informational class for a tech school, or military, etc. These actions in and of themselves will likely increase the rate of students who go into higher education. It doesn't require students to actually get into college to graduate. Basically, it just requires high school students to take one more step in exploring their post high school options before graduating.

OH NOES! The gubba-ment is making kids explore options that will make them less likely to suck on the public teat later in life! God forbid you go to an informational session about a career choice.

In reality, the Oregon House passes many laws that never make it through the senate.

I went to college for 5 years and got 2 engineering degrees. I have more education than 90% of Americans. My new job pays just over $60K/yr as a full-on engineer. Yet sleeve's retard buddies that can't even read make 6 figures.... And we wonder why the rest of the world is leaving us in the dust when it comes to technical education, advancement and innovation? But only a VERY small portion of those w/o a college or vocational degree will ever clear half of what you're starting at.

There's an exception to everything, but statistical data proves that a college degree will pay fir itself many times over.

I for one admire you many times over the secretary candidate i interviewed who wanted $50k starting because she had a hard life thus claiming she was a hardworker. You truly deserve more in your field despite lack of protest for your situation

Just because they are required to apply for college, doesn't mean they have to attend. Or even that they will get accepted. I don't see why this is such a big deal.
