Sad but they have it slightly easier than my neck of the woods. In santa clara county you need food handling safety certification, attend a hearing to get the blessing of the district, and a pretax for your projected revenue befire u even sell one glass of lemonade (applies if this isnt ur first establishment) on top of the business licenses you need to acquire.

the ability to use discretion has is a art long lost in our society. This is not every cop, nor every county but that this happens at all is appalling.

They should have been pushing smack outta their stall.

Now THAT would have made for a good story. Could you imagine the headlines?

"Police raid lemonade stand run by 14yr old girls."

            Imagine the uproar..

I remember when I sold used/found balls at the golf course, like 15 years ago, the business guys would joke around asking if we had licenses and are paying taxes from the $1 we made. They always gave us tips and said they're happy to see kids learn.

I always thought of lemonade stands as the most basic symbol of how free you are to have a business and make money to buy whatever you like, part of the American Dream.

But as basic as those lemonade stands are, that story is pretty much the most basic example of how shallow many "democratic" and "free" countries have become.

I was thinking they were selling scooby snacks out of the stand or something before I read the article.

I hope karma kicks that officers ass.

Maybe the officer didn't get a payoff of protection money.

It turns out the city of McAllen requires a health permit to sell food, and not even a couple of harmless kids are above the law.

I'm I just completely oblivous or what? This shit never happened when I was a kid. Then again I didn't watch the news or pay attention to this stuff because I was, afterall, a kid. My lemonade stands never got shut down. I also never paid taxes on my garage sales (probably $15 when I was 8 yrs old).

Someone tell me now because this world we live in is just getting too ridiculous. You can't do anything now without breaking some sort of law.

Wouldn't that make it triple taxation.

You can't even die these days without being taxed.

all the shit you sell at a garage sale you are selling for less than you paid for it. 99% of the time, there for you are not making a profit on the good you are selling, there fore you dont have to pay any taxes.

This logic doesn't work for selling cars in WA state. I'm not saying you shouldn't be right, I'm just saying that the laws don't really follow this logic in WA.
