Hot journalist takes "Save our schools" rally members/Matt Damon to task.

Michelle Fields (hot journalist) asks some good questions of the rally supporters and Matt Damon.

I couldn't help but laugh as she pins some of them with their own words.

The idea that job security decreases one's incentive to perform well is a joke.

I don't know, I always kept my job because I worked hard and that I was doing my job well. And I knew that if I didn't, I'd likely get fired. It might not be the only factor but it is definitely a factor.

yeah, we're totally going to solve our 14 trillion dollar debt problem by cutting teacher's pay and benefits. you know, because most of them are so wealthy and all..

Who said anything about cutting their pay?

what is the other reason for weakening their union rights?

I'm no fan of unions but targeting teachers in the budget discussion is asinine.

Who said teachers do it for the pay? I looked into 4 different states before ultimately deciding not to teach and all them had similar requirement for them to be taking a minimum of 6-9 units a year on the teachers own dime, leadership and classroom management seminars during the summer and classroom and facility maintenance on there own during the summer. Teachers teach because they love to teach, most teachers go there classroom on the weekends or grade on there own time along with develop curriculum on there own time. Wanna fire 10 percent save money or because they are bad, then you increase classroom size by at least 15 percent which does not benefit any student.

So miss hot reporter with hot questions on Matt Damon you got pwnd!

I can tell you from experience that a good student with good parents will not suffer badly if paired with an under performing teacher for a year, but the best teacher in the world has little chance with a kid who comes from a home where education is not valued.

So much is beyond the teacher's control that I do not believe tying teachers pay to performance without also holding the parents responsible for creating the right home environment is even remotely fair.

And no, destroying the teacher's union will not fix education. You'd have to fix the instant-result-driven, everything-on-platter mentality so prevalent in society first.
