Alabama jobless rate falls amid immigration reform

Alabama’s unemployment rate fell at a record pace in November amid stepped-up efforts by President Barack Obama’s deputies to frustrate enforcement of the state’s popular new immigration reform.

The state’s unemployment rate fell 0.6 percent in November to 8.7 percent, according to new state reports, partly because the state’s employers opened up jobs to Americans after shedding illegal immigrants.

The unemployment rate is far below October’s rate of 9.3 percent and September’s rate of 9.8 percent.

“The continued drop is proof that people — American Citizens [and] legal migrants, have suffered at the hands of politicians who choose politics over economics,” said Chuck Ellis, a council member in Northern Alabama’s Marshall County.

The most likely explanation is that the shitty economy is attracting fewer immigrants and causing more Americans to accept lower paying jobs.

Nope, the real reason unemployment fell is somehow the gov't doens't count people "not looking for work" as unemployed.

If they did, the current unemployment rate would be just over 11%.

Illegal immigrants are not taking the high 20 plus an hour jobs, there taking the minimum wage and farm labor jobs. Only in a bad economy do people really care about those jobs. Alabama complaining about illegal immigrants is like people in Arizona complaining about cold weather; its going to happen but its just a sensational media story. When your state becomes a border state, you have freeways in metric standards, and half the state doesn't speak English then complain. No one was complaining about cheap labor building cheap houses during the housing boom.

It unfortunately doesnt make any difference in the jobs these people are taking. In GA they ran off a lot of illegals and what we have is a construction/farm worker shortage. They were interviewing people filing for unemployment and food stamps and asking if they would take these jobs and nobody would, one lady's response was "my last job was in an air conditioned office, I shouldnt have to work outdoors. I feel it would be going backwards." GED only BTW.

So most people are "above" the work that illegals do.

Well, given this person's logic the wages would have to be exorbitant to get anyone because Americans now believe they are "above" the jobs that illegals did.

Its called "reality" and people with "too much pride". You do what you have to do not sit and depend on others because you did not get your way.


When I joined R3v I was in Transportation. I built a little company that moved heavy cranes around the US with a company called Morrow Crane out of OR. Construction went south and there was no work. I had no idea what I was going to do for income. I took a bartending class that was ran like a scam and saw the need for a true bartending school, not like the one I went to.

I met a guy off the street that was a pretty good bartender. I approached him not knowing him and talked about the lack of education I observed in school. I said I could do it better with some help and asked if he would like to join in this idea. Mind you I don't know this guy from Adam. He thought I was full of shit like everyone else here in Miami and put a task sheet for me to do to prove I was legit. I did it and went back to see him. He was amazed at how fast I was able to get that information. We started a company and today is the largest bartending school here in Miami.

I learned bartending by attending my own classes taught by my partner. I handle the business side of things. I got a job working in one of the largest clubs here in Miami and took off.

Please note, I had no income coming in at all from the time I went to bartending school to the time I started the school. I cut trees for 4 months in a row 7 days a week to make enough money to file all the necessary paperwork for the school. Opened the school and it took off due to hard work. Work that most would not do because it does not pay. I never done this kind of work ever! I did it by late nights reading and asking questions.


So for anyone that says I "aint" got a job or Im not working that job. Get off your ass and do something. Im no rocket scientist. I did not have a trust fund or mommy or daddy to help me out. I had a drive to succeed and not count on anyone to do anything for me.

Thats the attitude this country once had, today everyone's pride gets in their way. And people depend on a system that was not built to sustain life but to help in need.
