You do realize the search for affordable renewable energy source goes deeper than filling pockets right? Maybe we should wait till the last drop of oil has been drawn from the ground or last chunk of coal has been mined. The FACT is renewable energy is absolutely necessary, do you wish to ignore this until it is either necessary due to non-existent fossil fuels for us to utilize or is more profitable. Companies working towards it are not going to succeed or become viable competition to fossil fuels without investments from the government until they can become a legitimate alternative

we are not locked into current tech. how funny your argument will be in 50 years, way before we run out of anything. maybe we should save our money and not back tech that fails to be competitive with oil. solar will never compete until the tech is advanced (efficiency) or till oil escalates further in price.“There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place”

And then what, like I said....we wait till there are no other options? How about other nations, European union is shit out of luck? Environmental impact, fuck it climate change is a lie? How easy it is to make excuses when one chooses to ignore reality and refuse to accept obligations to future generations.Last edited by cale; 01-27-2012, 11:26 PM.Comment

Drip, Drip, Drip: Yet Another Green Energy Stimulus Recipient Hits the Skids (the third this week!)
this one only cost the US tax payers $5.9 million.
Earlier this week, Stimulus beneficiary Evergreen Energy bit the dust. Then, Ener1, a manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles and recipient of Stimulus largesse, filed for bankruptcy. And today, the Las Vegas Sun reports that Amonix, Inc., a manufacturer of solar panels that received $5.9 million from the Porkulus, will cut two-thirds of its workforce, about 200 employees, only seven months after opening a factory in Nevada.Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

yet another one bites the dust.... taxpayers in for $2.1 billion on this one
Solar Trust for America received $2.1 billion in conditional loan guarantees from the Department of Energy -- "the largest amount ever offered to a solar project,"

It's unclear so far how much of that liability is taxpayer money. According to the WSJ, it seems mostly private...and is also due to European nations (majority owner was a German company) slashing subsidies for solar energy. So it's a good thing, yeah? Natural market forces at work.

Honest question, not trying to start an argument. What is your purpose for pointing out failures of clean energy companies going under? Is it because they receive heavy government stimulus money, take away jobs in other industry, are unnecessary because renewable energy isn't needed? I want to know where you're coming from.Comment

With a P and L like that, where does the Department of Energy get off by granting 2.1 billion in taxpayer money?Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

grant != conditional loan
So aside from the fact that you implied of an order of magnitude higher taxpayer loss than even the worst unsubstantiated claim that could be made...anything else?Comment

And you started out with:
But my point is that you don't say anything...you imply bullshit things that aren't true.
Look, the government probably made a bad choice here - just like the private companies funding this endeavor. And it's intentions may have been even worse - friends of friends, favors, yada yada. I don't have a fucking clue.
But the shit you post and imply, simply isn't true. Doesn't look like in this case that the taxpayers lost anything. If you do more than extrapolate false information and post links, people will start to listen. Until then, they will roll their eyes.Comment
