    Year of the Bible

Well, now that the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has solved all their other, less pressing issues like unemployment and the economy, they have decided to reward God for his benevolence and have declared 2012 as "The Year of the Bible".

The people of Pennsylvania can rest easy now.

Am I to assume you're cool with a government adopting an official religion? That's a fair interpretation of what they have more or less done.

ummm, there's nothing that says a state can't define their religion. Some people take the clause, "seperation of church and state" the wrong way. The US gov can't declare a church as the united states church, but states have every right to do so....

Does anyone here ever even read the constitution and bill of rights even a fucking little? I'll send you the PDF document if you'd like.

I'm not really sure if anyone is disputing this... just acknowledging the fact that it happened as being interesting.

Well fuck, I live in PA and if my HoR is going to make baseless claims as to what 2012 represents then I'll just say 2012 is the year of the e30 instead.

It seems as though you need to learn your constitution better than a Canadian knows it, you're wrong.

                      Amendment I
                      Guarantee against establishment of religion
This provision has been incorporated against the states. See Everson v. Board of Education, 330 U.S. 1 (1947).[16]

What does this have to do with a state religion? Even if you narrow the Bible down to Christianity, theres no chance(assuming there weren't laws originally against it) of it happening. Christianity is all but kicked out of public schools, while other religions are completely embraced. Rest easy guys.

It's a house resolution, not a law. Nothing binding, nothing making you go to church or bomb an abortion clinic. It's as binding as a resolution declaring February Month of the Cheesesteak.

If I lived in PA, I'd be mad as hell that these lawmakers are wasting time on shit like this.

                              CALIFORNIA CONSTITUTION

I'd be very surprised to find that the state you live in does not have something similar.

Although you might be surprised to learn that there is no clause explicitly stating "separation of church and state" in the Federal Constitution so there's nothing for people to take the "wrong way."
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!
