exactly, but our lifestyle and work ethic won't make it as cheap to insure as easier going French or Italians. We rush to eat and down unhealthy diets instead of fresh cooked meals, drink lots of caffiene, and don't relax much - even on vacation.

Nice try there kronus
My employer takes very very good care of me because they know the sacrifices that we as employees make.
yup I am gone a lot, it sucks, but knowing there will always be roof over theirs and my head, food on the table, and clothes on our backs, good health care if we need it, and so on, provided by my own hand is much more honorable than being on my knees with my hand out to the govt for it all .The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Comrade Kronus, if you don't like your employers vacation allowances, become your own boss. Or work for a company with unlimited time off.
The government forcing companies to paid vacation will negatively impact competitiveness of our companies while also providing a floor for time off and reducing the employees market influence potentially which could help 'cap' PTO.Comment

My employer takes very good care of me as well, without the whole being gone thing. There are different jobs with wildly differing levels of benefits, I accept that. However, we're privileged to be in these situations. There are many people, however, that are at the will of their employers and are commonly exploited due to lack of laws.Nice try there kronus

Of course, your response to that is "well they shouldn't have such shitty jobs then!", which is not a response. Despite the Great American Dream there is very little upward mobility in lower brackets. The (unverified) fact you claim about the states being the most productive nation is at those people's expense, not yours. You work 1 job, at more or less the standard yearly amount.Comment

Nearly half of self-employed Americans (49%) report working more than 44 hours in a typical work week, compared to 39% of American workers overall. More than half of government workers (55%) work a traditional 35- to 44-hour work week, making them the most likely to do so.
Those self-employed people have bosses really taking advantage of them, making them work 44+ hours a week typically moreso than other workers.
The government ought to force those guys to take it easier on themselves... They're making everyone else look bad.
And you are crying for a slim minority. 91% of full time employees in private industry have paid vacation.
