changed title to reflect what janderson said in the other thread. i know this thread wasnt bashing mrsleeve and was asking for a civil discourse, but i dont want to be misinterpreted by seemingly calling out one individual.
farbin, congrats on 24k posts. I MEAN CONGRATS TO R3V FOR CREATING THE ENVIRONMENT WHICH ALLOWED YOU TO ACCUMULATE 24K POSTS MR.1% OF R3V.
sleeve, as you might be aware of, i was given a lot that many people might not consider fair. trust for college, inheritance for a house, etc. the fact that we live in america could be considered not fair to most of the world, tbh. im not saying life is not fair. it is.
but there is so much we can do to mitigate that. to make life a little more fair for everyone. and i dont care what you call me, a commie or a socialist, i honestly believe that CEOs getting paid 350x what their workers are getting paid is OUTFUCKINGRAGEOUS. 350x? really? THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY TIMES? i mean... really? how about just one hundred times the average worker. i mean.. hey, if the average worker is making 30k/year (that seems low, idk) that would be $3,000,000. fuck! 3 million a year. that's an extra 7.5m/year that could be used to pay another 250 people a year!
this just doesnt seem like a big concept to wrap my head around... corporate profits are up, unemployment is up, ceo pay is waaaay up. just seems a bit asshole-ish to me. maybe someone will say, "hey but kershaw, if you got off r3v and made your own company and it was seeing 10 million in profit a year, i doubt you would hire 250 extra people!" ok that's a fair point. because maybe my business model doesnt need an extra 250 people. but you can bet your ass that all the current employees would be getting hefty raises and there would be as many new hires as we needed. not absolute bare minimum people working 3 titles. but i for one, would certainly not be pocketing 10 million a year while the people that made me that money are scraping by on 30k/year.AWD > RWDComment

With the down turn, we saw lots of companies trim the fat. Yeah most are still doing more with less, and those that are still employed in those firms are glad to have the job in many cases.
I know your point about the CEO pay scales, and from a morality stand point I agree kinda. But from a principal stand point NO I cant. While I understand the point you are making you have to remember, the CEO, CFO, and all the rest are just doing a job, they dont answer to the employees (in most cases) they answer to the stock holders and the Board of directors. They are being paid to maximize the returns to the stock holders, (You and me BTW), many of them work 15 hour days 7 days a week and family and personal shit is all 2ed to the job at hand. The success or failure of the business is all them, and the implications of choices affect more than just those that work there many many times over and can hurt millions of pensioners, and other small time investors. ( I dont like getting your pay and golden parachute when you fuck up, I fuck up I am fired and dont get any thing but a escort to the door).
Yup you were afforded many things many of us were not, and that to a point has helped to shape your world view, and there is nothing wrong with that, just as my experiences have shaped mine.
You know well enough, that I have had to make hard choices, to make my way in life. You know I work as much in 6 months as the average worker does in 14, and that I never see my family. So I suppose its not fair that I make the amount of money I do either right??Last edited by mrsleeve; 06-13-2012, 05:18 PM.The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

We have a constitution and system of governance in need of serious revisions, if not complete repeal, so that it may be replaced with a new constitution and government that would benefit the people as a whole, yet the establishment is too cherished by those who do well from them, and those that fear the uncertainty of change, to ever be changed.sigpicComment

I think it's things like:
"CEO cuts 5,000 jobs, gets $15 million bonus!!!"
Wait, what the fuck?
Or where I work now, 5-6 years ago before it was bought by a large coporation, apparently the Christmas bonuses used to be FAT...........like $4k+ for EACH of the 300+ "normal" employees (the top guys are all on their own bonus scale).
Get purchased by a large corporation, more money goes to the top at the local and corporate level..............and even though sales and profits are up, bonuses are much lower.
Then you watch 3 of the top local guys come back after the Christmas break having spent a collective $400k on new cars....................that's kind of shit that pisses people off. And rightly so.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

And when you get a bonus everyone that works for you should also get a bonus. I.E. the lawn boy, the plumber, the HVAC guy, the washer dryer repair guy, your auto mechanic etc right.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I see what you did there.
Your post leads the reader to believe that what your advocating for is nothing like what the founders built and want something more like modern Europe. The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Perhaps a more scholarly view on income inequality:
Another Nobel Prize winner, F. A. Hayek, concluded, "The rapid economic advance that we have come to expect seems to be in large measure a result of this inequality and to be impossible without it. Progress at such a fast rate cannot take place on a uniform front but must take place in an echelon fashion, with some far in front of the rest."
We should all seek a prosperous, growing economy, with less poverty, and where everyone can rise as far as their talent and drive will take them. Equality? Who needs it?
z31's observations still raise a valid question, though.sigpic

I agree with mrsleeves with everything except the 350% increase for CEO's. I do understand how hard they work and do deserve the pay rise. BUT
I have been working in the corprate world for 6 years now, every year we have our performance review. In these years I have seen people do great things. This includes generating more income for the company, going over and beyond what is required, creating more efficenty ways of working saving the company millions. Yet some how, his pay increase is maybe only 5, 8 maybe 10%.
That is what gets me. I don't mind the CEO getting a fat pay rise, but it should be equal for others who work just as hard as him.sigpicComment
