For a nation known for leading the way in technology and advancements in science you have extremely bad statistics for violence and crime in comparison to other equally developed nations so yes...a shit storm IMO.

Yet even with the strictest gun laws, people still get murdered with firearms. There is no way around it. Gun Laws only affect the law abiding citizen and in this country, you have the right to defend yourself any way necessary. Firearms made America and is apart of it. People just have to understand that having this freedom that we are Cherish, comes with a price. And sometimes that price is very bitter. Gun control is not the answer. Sadly there is no clear answer to curb gun violence, other than educating people, having some moral value, and respect for your neighbor.

A lot of that starts in the home.

i cant even imagine how the family of the shooter feels..... i saw video footage of his father, he looked so confused.... like what happens? automatically disowned after like 24 years of campanionship? this guy fucked up hard. his family will never be the same, the families of the victims will never be the same, the victims will never be the same.

truely tragic... and interestingly enough he remained not gunned down by police? African American people in the bay get gunned down before they even draw.

From my point of view, living in a country that does not have strict gun laws, I believe the problem is people's confidence in being a hero (as many in this thread have proved) and that situations like this one lead people to think they should buy a weapon for protection. I know lots of people and only one person who has a gun. Though he has a property/personal protection permit, he only has the weapon as a hobby and takes it only to shooting ranges. It has nothing to do with laws, it's just common sense to not go around carrying guns. I know that's unimaginable for some of you.
When I lived in Arvada CO (a few miles from Aurora) my neigbor/friend's dad was a weaponry dealer. Their basement had enough weapons in safes to start a small war. Never did anyone from that family carry a gun and all we ever got to see when we were kids were hunting arrows.
People should leave the hero bullshit to the police force and others who make their living dealing with these situations and are payed by us to do so. Stating that "I would've taken that fucker down." is the same as someone claiming they would easily drift between two trucks, in a hurricane, with a starbucks in one hand.

And if I were asked to blame someone, I would certainly question why there were no guards and/or police officers at an event as anticipated as this. How the hell does someone dressed and armed like a special op even get close to a public place?!?

the only problem with the latter part of your post is, when seconds count and could mean your life, the Cops are only minuets away (in the best of cases) response times at my house are measured in hours in a lot of cases (due to distance involved)

just my $.02 about this incident..i personally believe this would of ended a lot sooner or wouldnt of happened at all if states allowed people to carry guns. Lets think about that for a second. If people were allowed to carry guns this guy would of been shot at the first sign of him trying to fire upon anyone. also i think people would think twice about going off on a rampage like this if they knew citizens were armed
