Two things. First, atheism connotates nothing more than a lack of belief in a god. We're all atheists to some degree, some of us have just gone one god farther. Second, these "militant atheists" (a phrase which has zero grounding in reality) are no different than evangelical Christians. The only reason you dislike them is because their arguments make you feel uncomfortable with your own beliefs.
Perhaps mrsleeve dislikes "militant atheists" because of their zealous employment of reductio ad absurdum as evidenced in your first paragraph.

It seems that waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles dates to 1914 in the sense of homosexuality.

The online etymology dictionary (etymonline) is the internet's go-to source for quick and reliable accounts of the origin and history of English words, phrases, and idioms.

Perhaps I need more clarification of the point.

My point was this is likely wrong. "Gay" seems to have been adopted if not originated by the gay community.

GLAAD doesn't want to redefine marriage?

Sounds like that kiss-in failed pretty bad, sucks to see people not even willing to actually stand up for what they think, aside from ranting on the internet from behind a keyboard.

The CEO's comments are not, IMHO, the big issue. The big issue is that Cfa is happy to take the money of LGBT people, and their allies, and donate it to groups that oppose the basic civil rights of selected citizens. Cfa is within its rights to do so and its customers are within their rights to spend their money elsewhere. The publicity helps people to decide how to target their spending. Both sides do this. The Family Research Council, which the Southern Poverty Law Center classifies as a hate group, is currently boycotting J.C. Penney's for using Ellen Degeneris as a spokesperson and then not backing down. They are boycotting Home Depot for something or another. They boycotted Ford for advertising cars in gay media.
The right, generally speaking, loves to dish it out and go crying home to mommy when opponents use similar tactics.

I started this thread, and I am sick of talking about this whole nonsense. Both sides of this issue are really giving their respective positions a bad name. Gays and lesbians blew the CEO's comments way out of proportion, and are more than happy to hypocritically protest against his right to free speech. On the other side, you have retarded fundamentalists (yes retarded, because you have to be in order to be a fundamentalist) buying chicken sandwiches in a gluttonous protest against homosexuality. Why do these people represent the rest of us?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
