Im talking ID cards not drivers licenses.
It's out of date, it actually costs $44.50 for an ID card in Oregon.

As for the poor that cant afford ID card. Gov should pay for them as they give free cell phones, section 8 housing, and food stampse etc... Why not an ID card?
Either way you're adding another obsticle to voting, and until suitible evidence is substantiated it is an unnecessary obsticle. If the state of Pennsylvania can't do so in court then you'll have serious trouble convincing me that it's needed.

You know its a law that you must carry ID on you at all times when in public.
    Uuuuh, source?

I have to show my ID to buy beer ( and I am over 30)

I had to show my ID to get my job,

I have to show my ID to Clients to be allowed on their property to do my job.

I have to show my ID to piss in a CUP to keep my job,

I have to show my ID (sometimes 2 forms of Picture) to get my money out of the bank. Or use a Credit or debit card.

I have to show my ID to get a place to sleep.

I have to show my ID to travel, on planes, trains, automobiles and even buses (not that I would ever take a bus)

I have to show my ID to buy general merchandise at some stores ( See credit/debit card rules)

I have to show my ID when asked for it by cops for what ever reason.

I have to prove I am who I say I am nearly daily just to interact in daily life. Why is it a big deal that I have to show it to the clerk to vote. As a matter of FACT I DO, when I go to the clerks office to set up my absentee ballot, they ask to see my ID.

This bull shit that poor people cant afford an ID is just that BULL SHIT. How the fuck do they prove who they say they are to get their govt benefits?? Fuck sake when you file for UEI they ask for a DL or SID number.

Damn, I guess that is one way Oregon helps collect to save the trees up there. As for the source, looking it up, looks like it varies state to state.

I agree that it SHOULDN'T be a problem to get an ID. We should all have some kind of ID available, and everyone should carry one or at least possess one they keep in a safe place.

            HOWEVER, the facts are:
            - A huge majority of those without IDs vote overwhelmingly democratic (poor, elderly, young)
            - All of the voter ID laws that have been passed around the nation have been passed by republican-controlled state legislatures
            - Several Republicans have said openly they hope to lower Democratic voter turnout through enactment of these laws
            - There is no proof whatsoever of voter fraud on any scale that voter ID laws would address

So yes, getting an ID shouldn't be a barrier to voting. But the motives behind voter ID laws are far from honorable. They are really 2 different issues.

                HUH what a novel idea.

I think Ben Franklin said something like that once ;)

Why get a job when the Gov gives you free money? Working is for SUCKERS!

If you have to pay for an ID to vote, is that constitutional? Because that is essentially saying you have to pay to vote. So whether or not you think people should have ID to get by is irrelevant. How is this a democracy when you exclude the poor and stupid?

I cant remember for sure, but IIRC most of the voter ID laws that have been passed. Had provisions for those too poor to afford an ID to get a Voter ID/ Voter Number, to provide the same function as a State Issued ID.

Funny how every time I make a point the conservatives don't like, they avoid my questions and try to change the subject :)

but seriously, +1. if you can't afford a freaking state issued ID, your prioriies are seriously mixed up.

no excuse for an NYS id, when it costs a whopping $9-$14 for a photo ID.

or..maybe people just can't meet the requirements to get a US photo issued ID. what the hell, let them vote anyways

this is patently false, and i'm surprised you even use this lame argument
