Because not everyone wants to move to America's wang, and because some people have family and job established where they live. It's why I don't just pick up and move to Denmark.

Getting a Federal Income Tax rebate =/= Paying zero taxes

Why are some people too fucking stupid to understand that?

They understand it just fine but they'd rather use it as an attack point.

well I have a wife (whos family is just across the border), 2 kids, a house, and one of the better jobs you could have in this area. I'm not exactly wealthy but I'm doing OK, especially for the area (average *family* income is ~$45k, but we have the living expenses of Seattle).

I have the rare opportunity to work at a place where a lot of the employees have worked nearly their entire lives - 20-30 years of service isn't unheard of. Also, many of them are getting close to retirement and there's about a 20 year age gap between them and the "next generation". That means they need guys like me to replace them, which means career opportunities abound. :)

I could get a similar job elsewhere, but I doubt I'd be treated as well, even if the pay was better, and it wouldn't be as secure. So, I'll deal with the highish taxes for a better quality of life.

then dont bitch if you are not able to get ahead in your current position. And dont expect the nation to help you either as its not their problem you are not willing to make the sacrifice.

I moved to Miami beach to pursue my business. My business modal does not work in most places but works very well here in South Beach. I am a country boy that prefers to live in the mountains vs the beach. But I figure I would work my ass off a few years, sell off, and never have to work again. Ill pay my dues when I am young so later in life I can enjoy it with out having to think about working again. Unless I wanted to of course.

To be fair, the Obama administration is trying to fool Americans about tax rates by playing on people's ignorance of effective tax rates vs. marginal. (OMG ROMNEY ONLY PAID 14%, YOUR MARGINAL IS 25%... yeah, but your effective was like 2% after deductions and credits) It's all a bunch of bullshit, and anytime people try to speak the truth they are flamed about being a supporter of the other side.

Also to be fair, I was one of those people on the map who didn't pay federal income taxes in 2008. I actually got a shitton back from the IRS. First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit, retrofiled from my 2009 purchase. Holla.

Generalizing anything involving our ridiculous tax code is ignorant of its complexity.

That's the spirit. Work hard doing something you hate in a place you don't want to live so that the later years will be enjoyable. At least you're taxes are lower. Good job!!

If you pay $2000 in Federal INCOME tax and then get $3000 INCOME tax rebate..........then yes, you didn't pay any INCOME tax.

But no, you did still pay sales tax, etc.

I haven't heard anyone, well anyone with any intelligence, as presenting it as paying NO tax.

I do something that I enjoy, that is what pushes me to keep going. I just found Miami Beach the place where I can make my future dreams happen. Am I the typical Miami Beach person? Hell NO! But sacrifice is the name of the game!

I think we can agree on that.

You said only unintelligent people say that zero federal tax liability means paying no taxes yet get upset when you get called out for poorly specifying your meaning. How do you think all those idiots got to that statement? Playing telephone game and losing details in the process.

It's crucial to keep statements accurate and not let meaning degrade.

It is frequently mis-stated (not by you) when it's brought up, which is why so many people jump on it.

Income taxes only account for 42% of the federal income, so when people use this argument it's usually an attempt to intentionally skew the facts to suit their argument.
