Religion is dangerous. No?

Are we to beleive that religion is not harmful? Or is it extremist sects that leverage their political goals against religious beliefs? Are we to believe that these extremist sects are not able to create their own 'leverage' i.e. "Innocence of Muslims" to incite rage and rioting based on religious beliefs? How is it possible to win a war based on beliefs? Has this poweder keg finally exploded? Me thinks so, unfortunately.

Religion is just a way to control mass amounts of people. It's a business. If they really cared about others they wouldn't waste millions of dollars on huge, immaculate churches, mosques, temples, etc.

As with everything. Moderation is key.

When people do too much, it becomes a problem. I am all for spreading the good word, but if someone does not want to hear it, it should not be force upon them.

The extremist of every religion are and will always be the negative face of a religion only because what they seek to do is gain as much exposure as possible with their crazy distorted belief of their religion.

Really, everyone has a sense of right and wrong. Religion just takes that natural sense to another level and calls it god. Basically that little voice in the back of your head.

Sure, when a drug addict comes to religion and is healed, etc, etc it's a good thing.

When the Pope decides to take back Jerusalem from the Muslims, promising heaven to all those who fund or go on a crusade, it's bad.

People take this stuff way to seriously. Every religion pretty much has the same backbone, with the exception of those fringe groups who are backwards to everyone else just for the sake of being different.

I went to church my whole life. Up until I turned 18 and moved to PA for school. Then that stopped. My time was more valuable to me than going every week to listen to someone to tell me what the little voice in my head was already telling me.

Sure, some people are fucked up, but I believe most people are born good, that is just changed by the circumstances they are born into and the decisions they make to change those circumstances.

i cannot say i hate religion, but i do not like to look in the direction of it. religion is the reason why millions have died in the name god/s. looking at present time, religious extremists need to be fucking killed. they serve no purpose. specifically muslim extremists. suicide bombing? really? your fucking dumb

There have been many discussion here about whether a god exists and about atheists and the meaning, and purpose of religion, and what not. With all that aside, I can understand why some muslims are in outrage over their profit being depicted in a way that challenges their beleifs, although I do not agree with the way it is being expressed at all.

People get cray when you attack their beliefs, thats essential attacking a persons identity.

The main purpose of that film was to incite anger, but is it possible that the film's maker(s) were(was) commissioned to make this film to mask the real source of an uprising that may have been completely premeditated. ?

I agree. I pretty much stay out of this section of the forum because of a few select people. Many people on here are capable of having calm, mature discussion while others can't. There are a few "elitist" atheists on here who need to calm the fuck down just as much as some of the theistic people. I am a Christian, I believe the Bible. Guess what? I also believe in many forms of evolution. Science proves it and no where in the Bible is that contradicted(in some respects it is proven).


That's where I'll end, as this isn't the thread for it, and it's not my job to continue to tell you things you(presumably) don't want to hear.




Here is one issue I do have; everyone groups the Islamic terrorists and extremists in the same group as, say, Christian Extremists. Yes, they're both bad, and they're both in the same standing of wrong doing/ sin/ bad karma whatever you'd call it, but look at the books: The (NT) of the Bible, while it does call out evil doings, promotes love and piece for those who don't believe. Now, take a look at he Koran. Tell me what you see. There is an overwhelming amount of only violence. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not calling all Muslims evil. But there are differences. The Christian Extremists are corrupted by themselves, they take their own ideas and distort them for violence. Where as Islam is based upon those values( at least the Holy book).
