Would you mind expanding a bit?

I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about the Electoral College as I should be.

No offense to you guys, but you get an even more distorted view of our candidates than we do. I mean, what fucking reason do 80% of Australians have to like Obama so damn much? I met a lot of you guys while I was traveling overseas and a few of them made a point of telling me that they just love Obama. And when I asked why, they would give me the same tired reasons that you hear from libtards back home. "Because health care for everyone, and ending wars, and Bush was terrible, and blah, blah." Sorry, but I'm glad Australians don't get to vote in our election. At least the ones from the Gold Coast.

yeah, uk is the same way. a lot of my family there tell me it will be a sad world for us if obama doesn't get into office, and when i ask why, they can't give me factual evidence. i guess the liberal media influences the uk too.

No arguement there, most media sources here are tabloid media and to find the truth and a actual good unbiased report is difficult.

Can't totally agree with you there. The electoral college did it's job well with proof by electing Bush over Gore. Not that that's saying much but I can't imagine how much worse off we'd be had Gore been in office.
However I don't like the fact people's votes can be overridden by a few people. But then again the average voter is ignorant. Tit for tat.

Yes I'm sure Bush did a much better job of the Iraq invasion than Gore could.

So the electoral college's job is to elect Republicans over Democrats? Or.. what? I don't follow what you mean. What do you think the purpose of it is?

I could turn that around on you couldn't I.
Doesn't matter, Gore would have made Bush look good. It saved us to that degree.

And you certainly do underscore the sentence in bold.

I believe Corvallis is talking about how only the majority wins electoral votes, so on the national stage, third parties get completely washed out. Popular vote can still be tallied up, but with all the focus on states and delegates, it hides the third parties a bit from the aggregate picture. Even if it were like 20% of each state, they would summarize only the two parties who won a state which would be strictly D or R.

In the end, I'm not sure who wants it still, besides in an Appeal to Tradition... or the states that get the attention because they are the swing ones. It's not like we lack the technology to have a popular vote in a timely fashion... barring hanging chads.

It's really hard to say. I watched the roundtable discussion with George Stephanopolous yesterday morning, they had 6 different political correspondents from the various networks (Fox, NPR, CBS, CNN, etc) and 5 of 6 predicted Obama would win the electoral vote. But honestly I think it's too close to call. Tomorrow night will be a nail biter.
