Anyone who doesn't vote and why?

    Hey,

Is there anyone here who doesn't vote? And if you don't, why not?
I have just recently realized that there are a lot of people who don't vote on purpose and I am just trying to understand the reasons why.

One of my friends doesn't vote because he says:
"I'd vote if my vote made a difference. Or if there was even a candidate that had any sort of message that wasn't a complete line to get power. Rocky Anderson is close, and I'd vote for him - but he's not even on the *ballot* in most states, and Oregon is so pro-democrat that the electoral college means my vote for president means *nothing*.

Basically if I vote I'd feel like I was agreeing to Status Quo. We need a change in our Constitution before I'd feel like I wasn't giving tacit approval to a corrupt and broken process."

    Thanks for replying! :)

"The Camry is an appliance, not a car. It attracts folks who have the same regard for driving that they have for washing dishes,
i.e. it's a necessary but somewhat unpleasant chore and they want something to make the task a little easier and insulate them from the process."

If you're not going to vote, vote for Gary Johnson.

Seriously, don't waste your time not voting.

I've also notice non-voters are the ones who complain about everything. I disregard them.

I won't vote til they get rid of the electoral college. It's an old system that hinders elections

Serious question. Who else have you voted for besides the president?

I have no idea who all those people are on the ballot other than one or two presidential candidates, and there are SO MANY people that I fill in bubbles for that I have no idea about, so you end up voting solely based on party...

Not caring is a HUGE part of it. I voted this year as several things were on there that I had opinions on.

However voting for people, meh, everybody pisses me off. Obama is a liar, Romney is a used car salesman, even around here locally (WA) the amount of political mail I received that bashed the other guy/gal was staggering.

I made a mission this year to vote for people who didn't bombard me with stupid political mail, didn't run 10,000 commercials, and didn't take over the radio saying SHE SUPPORTS CHILD RAPE, OR HE SUPPORTS HIGHER Taxes.

Lot of my friends hate this view, many of them are very political, but you know what? its my god damn vote and that is what I did. I don't believe in throwing other people under the bus to win, and every fucking politician does this.

...and this is exactly how they win. Either Romney or Obama will win in a few hours, not the random 3rd party candidate who did not send mass propaganda and spend billions on campaigns.

Agreed, however I still feel better not supporting either one of them.

Well if you vote, you don't get the right to complain.

I believe the opposite. If you vote, you can complain because you actually tried to do something about what you are complaining about.

But if you don't vote, you can't complain because you didn't do ANYTHING to try to change what you want to complain about.

I tell my boyfriend this all the time about general day-to-day stuff. You can't complain if you aren't going to do anything about it.

We had two congressional reps and two constitutional amendments on the ballot today.

I've only ever voted in state elections. Missed the 2008 election because absentee voting is bullshit.

You are the exact type of person I am talking about when I say that it's hard for people on R3V to have serious discussions about a subject and that it often times turns into; people making fun of others, internet meme pictures, incomplete meaningless sentences, backlashes, attacks, overreactions, and general immaturity.

Obviously, you are not intellectually-minded enough to have mature discussions, so you have to prove something by making immature, misogynistic jokes towards a female who is above you. I'm not mad about your joke, I just have pity on you.
