I don't usually get into these threads but I'll take a shot. I grew up with a democrat side and a republican side of the family. One side fought hard for ends meet and one lived with 8 cars and a $500k house in Toledo Ohio. I see both sides. One side wants my mom covered under healthcare because after surviving breast cancer she is now expected to pay $5k A MONTH for coverage. On the other side, I'm 26 and have been successful out of college. I look at my taxes and gave 31% taxes to the government in the tune of $22k.
So here is my view. I don't give 2 shits about what party you're about. I want someone to just give a shit about changing the country for the better. I don't give a shit that you met Jay-Z or hung out with Justin Bieber and now Binden on Parks and Recreation. Give me a break. The country is a business with a lot of employees and customers. It needs to be run like a business and not as a charity. Making the country better isn't telling people that "we have more benefits" that you dont have to pay for...it's here is some help but we'll check in on you every week for employment application status.
If you have 2 jobs and can barely make ends meet...come over to my house Ill feed you. Ill give you a ride to your job. I get it, I lived it with my mom who needed help sometimes. We had love and a car, coats, food, and we had a blast growing up. You playing on your smartphone that don't pay shit and have a free house, car, and other amenities that I work 70 hours a week for....I hope you get hit by a car.
I voted for Obama first term because we needed someone to change our country and not another "Bush" like person. I voted for Romney this time because Obama hasn't done shit. You can say all day he did something but honestly from my perspective it's all smoke and nothing significant. Again, yes Bush set it up bad and had debt but I voted for Obama to get out of the mess. I don't care about MJ or how much dick you like in your butt. Stop the bleeding of manufacturing and jobs overseas and make it hard for people to do it here. Get more people working will equal more revenue.
As said before, I've talked to my friends and the people that get it are the ones that have a real job...not meaning college education...I mean a real job. I don't put an age on stupidity. I didn't like either candidate but seeing that Obama had 4 years and he's done nothing is why I voted for someone else. Maybe Obama needed a break in period and I hope he can bring positive change now but the people that think he's Jesus himself are just as bad as the people think that Romney was our savior. People need to get off their high horses and know, not one, of these candidates would have been that much better than the other and what we need is just for someone to do something.
I say have 5 people run for president each are give equal amounts of money. The ones that get the two highest percentage of votes are co-presidents.Last edited by Mastrcruse; 11-10-2012, 09:55 PM.

My biggest thing is the debt, yes I know bush had a big help in increasing it but there comes a point when it's the current president's issue especially when he doesn't show any sign of slowing down his spending.
I'm not a fan of Obamacare even though the system before wasn't perfect either, yes it's a subjective thing like how some people have a family member who survived cancer and now has to spend 3-5k a month, that's fucked. I'm not a fan of how he handled the Libya issue and it just gets worse and worse as it unfolds. I feel our country needs a business minded leader in office not a lawyer. Lawyers don't know how to run a company which is basically what a country is. I have no problem with the govt helping people in times of need but when you make it attractive to be lazy because hey someone else will pay shit has to go.
I don't like his way of handling immigration issues in arizona and the border in general. And I dislike his general persona, I don't give a rats ass Jay-z thinks you have swag and you ball with lebron. I'd rather see you make peace agreements in the middle east and lead us out of debt.
Now I'm not saying in anyway Romney would be perfect as once again we had to pick between the lesser of the 2 evils but when Obama has a 4 year track record that shows nothing major being accomplished that points us in the right direction well then it's time to give someone else a shot. Yes 4 years can be a short time to show major change but if your gonna be a great president and get us out of this mess we'll be able to see it right from the get go

So the Romney supporters believe in voter suppression tactics because things went the other way?
Anyone who has glanced at the Constitution knows that 18yo were extended the right to vote because of eligibility to serve in the military. The rational is if you can die for your country, you can vote on the you prefer leaders.
They tried land requirements, poll taxes etc. in the past, but the same people who parade on about equal rights for ladies and LBGT, already fought these issues in the past.
Originally posted by WikepediaWhen the country was founded, in most states, only white men with real property (land) or sufficient wealth for taxation were permitted to vote. Freed African Americans could vote in four states. Unpropertied white men, almost all women, and all other people of color were denied the franchise. At the time of the American Civil War, most white men were allowed to vote, whether or not they owned property. Literacy tests, poll taxes, and even religious tests were used in various places, and most white women, people of color, and Native Americans still could not vote.
The United States Constitution, in Article VI, section 3, states that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." The Constitution, however, leaves the determination of voting qualifications to the individual states. Over time, the federal role in elections has increased through amendments to the Constitution and enacted legislation, such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965.[1] At least four of the fifteen post-Civil War constitutional amendments were ratified specifically to extend voting rights to different groups of citizens. These extensions state that voting rights cannot be denied or abridged based on the following:
Birth - "All persons born or naturalized" "are citizens" of the U.S. and the U.S. State where they reside (14th Amendment, 1868)
"Race, color, or previous condition of servitude" - (15th Amendment, 1870)
"On account of sex" - (19th Amendment, 1920)
In Washington, D.C., presidential elections after 164 year suspension by U.S. Congress (23rd Amendment, 1961)
(For federal elections) "By reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax" - (24th Amendment, 1964)
(For state elections) Taxes - (Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections, 383 U.S. 663 (1966))
"Who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of age" (26th Amendment, 1971).Originally posted by 325Projectzdon't listen to the diagram... listen to mr. swiss.

So I don't think this has showed up in here, but I just skimmed. Has anybody looked at the effect that Obama's reelection has had on the stock market? It has taken a nosedive and does not look to be improving much. There are two reasons I know of for this:
1) Obama wants to raise taxes on capital gains. No big deal there, happens all the time. The difference here is that he wants to increase the tax by the largest margin in years. Our current rate is 15%. Some people projected 18, 20% as the next hike. Obamacare and other programs have set that rate at over 23%, which has caused a lot of people (especially smaller investors) to question how important investing in stocks really is. If they're going to pay away that much more of what might not be much money, why not go somewhere else?
2) While capital gains have always been taxed, dividends have been tax-free revenue for those holding stocks with the option. Obama not only wants to tax dividends again, but I was talking to a friend who works at a firm in the city, and she said that the tax rate could be as high as 50 or 60%. That fact alone has caused a huge number of people to bail out of their stocks while they can keep the profits and reinvest somewhere else.
I'm no financial genius to be sure, but those both appear to be real good ways to severely hurting the stock market. And on top of that, I agree that the rich should not have to pay so much less in taxes as the rest of the population, but the downside to upsetting them is that they--and their business and their funds--go somewhere else.Last edited by ELVA164; 11-10-2012, 12:07 PM.Interested in vintage cars? And there's no wonder you're such a staunch conservative if you think some of the places you cite in arguments are legitimate ;) but yes, that response was half a joke.
I only do Whistler in the summer, otherwise it's waaaaay too expensive for overcrowded skiing. Rockies are where it's at.

You know, I voted for Obama because I had to do anything I could to try and stop Romney from taking office.
However, the people on this forum who hate Obama have changed my opinion of our president. As I've read through the many political threads on this forum I've researched the facts and claims made by people against all of the candidates and it has taught me so much about all of them. I have changed my opinion of Obama from the "lesser of the two evils" to having a lot of respect for the man, and completely supporting him as our president.
So, thank you, Obama-haters.Different strokes for different folks.
