No flu shots = no job?

There has to be more to the story, leave it to the dumbass journalists to not post anything relevant like:

Were the employees told if they didn't get flu shots they would be fired?
Does forcing an employee to take a vaccination violate any personal rights?
    Etc etc etc

Health Care industry. Its required what more can be said.

Its like working a construction job and refusing to wear your hard hat when your supposed to, over and over again......... Same deal, company policy, and since it was required the shot was provided.

Now, I am not a fan of unnecessary shots, and to most people the flu shot falls into this category, and with anything there are slight risks to very very few persons with anything. So forcing someone to get a shot, that they may or may not want for their own personal reasons and hinging their employment on it is how shall we say in the gray. As its a personal choice, yet on the flip side your personal choice can sicken or kill a patient at the facility you work at........ Its a Catch 22, for personal freedom/employee rights, and the employers rights and liability along with the well being of those in their care.

I can see both sides to this and I think since these people chose to get into the H/C field/work for a health care provider they have made the decision that getting all the necessary shots is a prerequisite and a condition of their employment. I dont see much room too stand on here, all though some lawyers will see it other wise and use it as a discrimination law suit opportunity and a huge payday.

Required for my job too. No shot = no flying. Hate being over immunized, my body will not be able to fight any sort of cold when I'm 67 and able to collect my retirement. I'll kick the bucket when the first foreigner walks by me and sneezes.

Had my first flu shot this year. Work in healthcare now and it's required. We have to have all of the CDC recommended ones because we might be around people with compromised immune systems.

Flu shot is BS. I got it three years in a row and got sick multiple times each year. The past couple years I didn't get the shot and haven't been sick once.

What scares me is, 1 flu shot in ~20 years.

The one year I got one (in college), I ended up deathly sick with pneumonia. Never gotten sick when I haven't gotten the shot.

Could be a one off thing, and most likely is, but I've never had the desire to do it again.

Never been sick without the shot. Never gotten the shot.

I hear more stories of people getting terribly sick after getting the shot that I don't want to get it. My personal choice.

One of the reasons I never got it before it was required is I question the efficacy of the vaccine. Right now its based on the most recent strains experienced in the south american winter, which might not be the same ones we get hit with. So you might be immune to it, just that its mutated since then.

If you did the shot then its a coincidence unless you have some sort of auto-immune disorder. Because the shot is injected straight into you they kill it completely before producing the vaccine and everything else in the vaccine goes into just keeping the cells viable enough for your body to recognize them. Now the nasal spray, that has to be live. Weakened, but live. If your immune system was compromised then the weakened virus could become a full-blown infection.

Freshman year there was a scrawny little fuck that lived on my floor; one day we were talking about immunity n such and he exclaims "I have a flawless immune system; I get a flu shot every year!"

My wife is a home care nurse and she has to get one. She, and a pile of others have refused and thier union has backed them. They are fighting it based on the false information given about its effectiveness, and thier own human rights. Nobody should be forced to inject any UNPROVEN substance into thier body, for a job.

They said thalidomide was safe also.

                          Agree 100%

Inform yourself, make a concious informed choice. Claiming they're useless is pure BS, they have a use but perhaps not one that you yourself will experience.

I get one every year, and have not had the flu since. I used to get it every other year before i started getting them.

"They" may have said it was safe in Canada but the FDA never approved thalidomide in the United States.
