No flu shots = no job?

We are talking about healthcare employees here. Hospital acquired infections are extremely dangerous and far too common. A healthcare employee who refuses the flu shot could end up killing someone.

If you aren't willing to be immunized, you shouldn't be working in the healthcare industry. It's comparable to the assholes who want to teach creationism in science classes.

My wife is a home care nurse and she has to get one. She, and a pile of others have refused and thier union has backed them. They are fighting it based on the false information given about its effectiveness, and thier own human rights. Nobody should be forced to inject any UNPROVEN substance into thier body, for a job.


They said thalidomide was safe also.

What is being left out are those of us who have a reaction to the shot. Post radiation/chemo=swelling/joint pain reaction. Co-worker with history of Polio=Guillain-Barre symptoms.

It is wrong to mandate what is assumed to be beneficial for the masses, upon the masses.

There will be an attorney who does pursue this. And they will win.

1). The liability exposure of NOT having a policy like this in place is significant. I'm amazed that it has taken this long for healthcare companies to require flu shots.

3). It's a known fact that hospital acquired infections are a huge problem in the US health care system. Influenza is a significant part of that. While the flu shot does not guarantee freedom from infection, it does lower the chances. Period.

The problem is, the recent study we had done by an outside source,(cannot remember off hand who, but it's the one used by all in the medical world apparently,) came to the conclusion that the shot does not reduce the risk of contracting the flu any measurable amount.

Our provincial health authority mis quoted the source and mandated this "all health care workers MUST get a flu shot" shit. Then it was brought to the attention of the "source" and the shit hit the fan when thier spokesperson categorically denied that the flu shot does any measurable difference, and stated that the government misquoted him for their own mandate.

Now the "mandated" flu shot has been pulled, and the government here is back pedaling on the issue.
There are human rights law suits in play about it here now.

On a personally known front, I have a friend who's husband was very high up in the BC Cancer agency, very, and she is a cancer researcher, and they both said, and I quote, " there is no way on earth I would put that concoction in my body"

Take that for what you want, do what YOU want, just don't let someone else make the decision for you.

Not the same. When I get home from work in the construction field, I get to remove my hard hat and boots, they don't get to remove the injection.

You would do better comparing a health care worker wearing a mask in that metaphor, not one taking a injection.

I have no issue with them being forced to wear a mask though, just the injection.

I hadn't had a flu shot in many years until last year. Without the shot I had been fine and never got sick, but they offered it at my job for free so i figured why not. That damn shot got me sick. I was messed up for like 2 weeks. I definitely wont do that again. No shots for me.

My company has policies in place for special circumstances like allergies, religion, etc. They wont terminate you but then you have to wear a mask every day.
