My mom is a middle school Science teacher (just think of the rhetoric they are getting encouraged to push in the class room) in Tuscon, I have some insight into this ;) . Also look into the defunct discriminatory history curriculum that TUSD (my moms district) was using not too long ago.......

No its a good dialog that needs to happen especially among us younger guys and those just getting done with their public education......

What curriculum is it that does Gen MacArthur wrong? He was a great wartime leader in a conventional world war......and he also didn't understand the ramifications of using the same tactics in the nuclear age, therefore he was relieved of duty by Pres. Truman. Maybe I got the same curriculum in the mid 90's but I'd say it is historically accurate. I'd go as far as saying that there would be no internet, or people to use the internet had he dictated the final US response to the Chinese and NK in the latter years of the war. Just sayin, for argument's sake :)

Aside from the first paragraph, yeah that was my experience in the same timeframe. Mainly a bunch of wanking about Vietnam from former hippies (I grew up in Eugene, OR), and a lot of studies about random historical cultures (as in the art history) that really had no bearing on world history, other than knowing what a fucking shamen is, or other such nonsense. So yeah, it wasn't until college or the real world that I learned anything worthwhile historically speaking, aside from my own unusual interest in the subject.
