There also wasn't a 24/7 news cycle that made such horrors real to people thousands of miles away.

The dialogue about this whole thing didn't really start until Columbine.

well CNN the pioneer for 24 hour news was founded and went live June 1 1980. there were lots of incidences of school violence between then and Columbine.... Some how I dont think the 24 news cycle is the issue.

I think the caveat emptor (is that the right usage, fuck it Im going there) is that the school fucking called the Mom in. This whole thread must be filled with millenials who cant read or think.

If my kids school pulled this shit I would sue them to kingdom come, and I bet I would win. School calls Mom in emergency about her child, Mom does as told as shows up, escorted in by teacher, Mom gets arrested. The onus is on the school in this situation.

Now if Mom just showed up, yeah different situation. But the facts of the case show otherwise.

                                What's the fail, chief?

More technically it's "may he beware," but it's almost always used in the context of purchasing something. Hence the generally accepted translation of "buyer beware."
