Why is this shit so hard to grasp????? Did either of you pass Civics when you were in school. god dam

Semantics man wants to know, what state has senators "representing" fewer than 300k people each?
Even if I agreed with your (idiotic) premise, I said that "Rural states will still have far too much power, but that's an inevitable consequence of our political system."

And Wyoming has a population of less than 600,000. (I am aware that senators are elected by the whole state - it's a people per senator comparison.) Oh yeah, and I dropped a digit on the high end. CA has over 19 million people per senator.

1 the premise is based in REALITY a place in which I live. The premiss is factually correct and logical. The founders intended the states to have an equal representation at the federal level, other wise you would end up with a mass fickle mob style rule that tends to come as a result of true democracies. It was also so one state would not have more power at the federal level over the rest of the states. You already have urban areas and more populace states running the show for the most part anyway, what more can you ask for

Congrats I knew WY was least populace but was under the impression that total pop was somewhere near 650-700k thanks for the correction

So what? The founding fathers made a political compromise to get the smaller states on board, and in order to minimize the role of populism. All of the anti-populism measures have been eliminated (the President and the Senate are basically directly elected), while the structure remains in place.

It is, and I quote myself here yet again, "...an inevitable consequence of our political system."

You seem to be doing your very best to prove my point in the most disagreeable way possible. Congratulations, or something. You get a gold star.

My county alone is lager than MD and RI combined by land mass, tell me again why my state has more power in govt than a densely populated one????

Oh yes it shure seems that the rural areas of this country get too much say in our leader ship at the federal level.

In 08 you had some rural areas that voted for our current inept leadership, but if you were to go by land mass, there is far more red than blue.

Even less rural areas voted for our current debacle in 2012, yet who still elected the tool. Humm could it be the urban areas yet again, Nahhh couldn't be them with all the disadvantages they have with out enough weight in the voting both. Yet here we are with even more rural area taking up real estate on this map

              Just one example among many
Sleeve, sorry, I'm not following you on this one.

Are you saying that rural areas are underrepresented because they send fewer congressmen to DC than large metropolitan areas, even if the former are much bigger than the latter?

I don't see what geographic size has to do with anything.

That was my whole point basically. Geography and its scale has little to do with the power of a state at the federal level, its the population density of a given area that determines that.

The point is the urban and populace areas of the country and state are the ones who have the bulk of the power with in govt. Since someone says 80% of the population lives in urban areas, there is where the bulk of the representative and electoral power lies. While rural states control vast swaths of area geographically its the densely populated areas of a state or the country that are running the show.

I forgot we (as in modern society) are so much smarter than the founders and know better.... Not to mention actually using the founding documents and the highest law in the land is out dated and needs to be scrapped. Carry on Progressive High fives all around
