Dude you're conflating a bunch of stuff here. Welfare isn't the same as SNAP (food stamps) and not the same as SSDI.
SNAP doesn't have lifetime limits. You can't spend it on non-food items but some recipients misuse it and some stores allow people to buy stuff they're not supposed to.
Welfare (TANF) does have lifetime limits, assuming it's a state program that is compliant with federal TANF. Here's your state's TANF spending for 2014:

It sucks that you weren't able to work, no doubt. But all of these programs have income requirements, and you were apparently above them. The obvious rationale behind that is that if you're over a certain income amount you can afford what you need to survive.
