Pretty sure they still don't have sales tax.

Yeah. You know how they make that work on the books? They take it out of your paycheck up front instead.

Isn't that the truth. I appreciate the natural landscape here, but generally speaking, the people and politics leave much to be desired.

          Especially Portland.

The way simple city planning is convoluted is just asinine.

This is pretty minimal tax, especially if the revenue is earmarked for bike related spending.

4M oregon residents, how many buy a new bike in a given year? 50k?

              Sounds like a use tax.

              No problem with it.

But at what point do we start adding special use taxes.

I think he means for everything. Next it's 4% for a can of beans, 37% for beer, 5% for a computer and so on and so on. Then they waste a.bunch of time figuring out what to tax and for how much...... then after a while oregon has an income tax and a sneaky ass "sales tax"

that's a common misconception but it's never been earmarked or dedicated to education for this state

Comparing it to a sales is not the same.

When everything gets taxed the use tax becomes essentially a sales tax. Slowly muddy the waters and over time people forget.

                              wrong.

a use tax would be yearly, given that bikes live longer than a year.

this tax happens at point of sale only.

                              that's a sales tax.
