Most of the people that claim taxation is theft also believe in supporting our military in every sense, yes the ironing is strong with that sort.
Much of the taxation debate also comes down to where you live in the country. If you're in a city area you are quite understanding of taxation because you see the benefits of it right in front of you every day. Much of the infrastructure of urban areas is built and maintained by taxation.
If you live in a rural area, you don't really get that immersion, there are a couple roads and a few traffic lights, a few police officers, a volunteer fire department, there's really not much that needs to be paid for and therefore not much needed in the way of taxes.
To me the necessity of taxation is there for all, however quantifying it becomes a matter of perspective based on several variables, location being one of the most important.
