It's a Dell Optiplex with a Pentium R 3Ghz (dual processor with hyper threading, I believe) and 3GB of RAM, which isn't that much these days.

It's a huge file when saved and closed, almost double the size when open and working.

damn, i'm usually up to about 1.5G by the end of an illustration and my mac book pro hates me for it. I cant wait to stop working on this laptop and get a proper desktop wen ifinish school in may!

you should be rocking a mac my friend. What kind of PS work are you doing??? with those sizes i would say huge poster, or something for the side of a bus. and only 115 ppi? my not work half the size at 300 or 400 and then have room to enlarge the file after you flatten???

But we are able to do it 2-3 times quicker when you factor in pop-ups, viruses, yadda yadda. :) Im not trying to turn this into a mac/pc thread but I love my macs.

To the op, do you mean 20'x30'? You said 20"x30" at 100dpi or so. If so, that's nothing. My mac with only 2gigs of ram handls that stuff all day long. Now, when I get serious, I shut down all my other apps and get to it.

I follow Adobe's advice on setting Window's virtual memory, make sure the scratch disc is set to C or whatever your working drive is and not 'Start up', reduce the history states to 5, and give Pshop 75% of the system resources.

I would love to have a Mac, but strong one is out of my budget. However, it's no longer like it was in 1995 when PC's sucked for graphics - the platforms are equal now :D

The design is for a trade show display. I would have created it at the max device output resolution of 180dpi, but chose 150 because the layout includes two photos, and even though Genuine Fractals does a great job of scaling photographic content, it has its limitations. A previous booth that was developed at 180ppi, was significantly larger than this one.
