              The hotter you allow an engine to run, the more efficient it runs since the less heat will be absorbed by the cylinder head, piston, engine block which allows more heat available to do work. If we had the materials that could withstand combustion temperatures better we would have much more efficient engines. Materials are the limitation. So if you ever hear anyone trying to run a 160 F thermostat in an e30, slap them and tell them to fix their cooling system and stick with a stock 180 F thermostat.
