the cigarette lighter cannot be used for anything else but starting the car, at the moment. so if you tried to charge a phone or something like that, it wouldn't charge at all.

What I think you're failing to see is the fact that it's just something cool that he figured out how to do in his car. There's no practicality in it, but how many people can start their car from pushing in the cig lighter?
