    Summit Point, WV on 5-2-09

    Hey guys,

i am a total auto-X n00b, and this will be my first time, i am going to go to this event: http://nccbmwcca.org/index.php?view=...list&Itemid=46

And i searched and didn't find a post here on this exact event, so is anyone here going?

and BTW i have no idea what to do when i get there, i am sure i will figure it out. My brother said a friend at his school invited him to go and he got me to go, so my first auto-X!

i am bringing my DD 318is stock motor, just H&R race, Bilstien Sports, and 16x7 BBS RKs.

anything really important i need to know or anything completely stupid i am missing in all my newb-ness?

BTW just read the "so you want to go to the track" sticky. or whatever the title is.

Doesn't so much matter how new or old the tires are, but instead what model they are. Half tread Dizerra Star Specs are a million times better then random all-seasons from your local tire store that have full tread.

Brand name doesn't matter either ;) Could be a Hankook Z214 r-comp for all we know, haha. But if they are just normal, worn out, all-season tires, the 912's will be better most likely, although they are still all season tires that aren't great for autox use.

It won't matter though, the car is the least important thing at your first autox. Just worry about learning.

              cool!

i was just wondering more based on the shape of the tire, because under hard cornering the stock tire would more likely roll off the rim or something, where the other tires on the 16x7s would not.

Yeah, the same tire in a 40 series vs. a 60 series sidewall, given the same tread width, with have more sidewall flex with with 60 series. That's not always a bad thing though. It's not going to 'roll off the rim'.

hmm.... so in other words it really does not matter how high the sidewall is, it will still work... ?

What do you mean by 'work'? Any tire will work, your not going to rip it off the wheel or anything.

My 195/60/14 Azenis are stiffer overall then my 205/45/16 General UHP's. They grip better, they roll less, etc. And of course my 205/55/14 V710 r-comps are probably 10 times stiffer then my Azenis.

The actual tire is much more important then the size.

Ooooooh fuck yea! Youre on washington circuit! I was the second guy EVAR to drive on that track. Ok well maybe third... I hope they installed the bumpers.

Just take it easy on the track and don't stress too much about it. You'll have more fun than you ever imagined. I normally do the track sideways though. Have someone take pix of you and put them up!

If you have any questions about the track, how to get there from the main gates, or whatever pm me. I'm not a track official but Im a rep the Drift Nirvana series that Summit Point runs.

                      Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

                        that's awesome!!

yeah i am sure i will have fun! i will probably be pretty nervous though going out there. I am sure i will probably break something in a very embarrassing way right away.

Anyway i am going with my younger Brother, he is taking his 95 M3, so we will definitely get pics and they will most definitely be up here on R3V!

i google mapped the track, i'm sure i will find the place i need to be.

The diff was questionable to begin with so I brought a spare lol. It's the first diff I ever broke I doubt you will. Plus I was drifting so the shock to it is worse than autox I would assume...

But yea, bring fluids and hose clamps and tools and shit. You never know. If you do break something, LMK, I have tons of spare parts lying around and have contacts for anything else. Where in MD are you?
