Thanks for the photo! Is there an upper bar behind the bumper that I can't see, or is it just mesh with no structure at the top?

We welded our bumper mount struts last time to keep the bumpers solid, but this was a bad idea as a front end hit ended up punching in the bumper mount on the body. This time we're running normal mounts so the bumpers/mounts can be the sacrificial lambs instead of the body. I do have chains wrapped around them to keep them from falling off, since it seems to be a common problem with BMW diving boards.

We also welded the bumper struts.
We also ran a 2 inch flat steel strip behind both bumpers. Since we were seeing the bumpers getting hooked on other cars and being pulled off. We drilled holes in the steel where the stock mounts were. Then also drilled a few new holes and bolted the Aluminum bumper to the steel strip in a few places. This worked well. We have not lost a bumper. but they have been twisted. You can sort of see the buckeing in the rear vance. But the cage kept the body in tact.

Here are the photos of the oil cooler.

Looks like I'll be begging my friend for some welding favors again!

you just need to go out to Harbor freight. Get a metal chop saw and a little welder.
It doesnt have to be pretty just work- strong.

As for the Aluminum plates. We cut circles that match the size of the outer ring that the bushing is mounted in. Drill 3 holes. One the size of the control arm. then 2 for bolts.
Pull the bushing off the car. Then fill the old bushing and line up the holes and sandwitch it between the plates. Use two bolts hold it together. So the Aluminum circles will hold the added goop in place to dry and give it added ridgity.

Sorry no time for Photos. Leaving for the Ireland and UK tomorrow. doing the Mini cooper 5oth IMM and some honeymoon time with my wife of 3 weeks. She has the classic mini and it was her Idea.. My event will be BMW show in the UK that is as big as Bimmerfest.

Thanks for all the info, bam. Unfortunately my team welder decided to move away and build his own LeMons. The nerve! I'm not going to buy one, I'll just beg some favors.

            Have fun in Limeyland!

Hey I see the porcubimmer is in the top 10 after the 1st day of racing. Did you get a chance to talk to the backwards 2002 guys at the Buttonwillow race? One of the drivers is my ex brother inlaw.. its good, we still talk.. I gave him some pointers on how to prep a car.

              Good luck with the race.,

So how did the Porcubimmer run? Did you have to do any overnight repairs? or did you jsut get to drive and have fun?

I spent yesterday at a friends shop pulling the trans. Checking clutch and thrwo out bearing.. Re installing the kill switch. putting in used starter and replacing the exhaust. We went to a full system that exits in the back of the car.

Spent today getting all the little things done. Tomorrow I go out to the secret testing facility.. then in the afternoon we do some welding to protect the fuel filler area. then hopefully we are done..

If your looking to do a race. Check where its going to be held. RE the 1/2 mile ovals are not that exciting, compared to the road course events.
There also now is the Chump series that is running at differnt tracks.

Its addicting once you try it you will have to budget for at least one event a year. We are running 2 this year and planning on 4 with the CHump series next year.

This might be slightly off topic, but BeerTech and Malt Liquor Tech have both changed our views on LeMons.

                                Fuck LeMons.
