I've arranged with Speed Ventures to hold a dedicated BMW-only run group on Sunday, 6-28-09. I'll be taking my Z4 MC. All BMWs (and Minis) are welcome!
The BMW Run Group is for drivers with some previous track experience. Novices are of course welcome to attend and should sign up for the Beginners & BMW Group. I highly encourage all Beginners & BMW Group drivers to pay for first-time-driver in-car instruction. Speed Ventures charges very little for this service and it will make your day even more fun!
Speed Ventures runs a very organized and safe event. Willow Springs is a wide, smooth track that is the easiest track to learn in CA and also provides subtle challenges for advanced drivers.
Follow THIS LINK, then sign up for the 6-28-09 date and choose either the "BMW" Group or the "Beginners & BMW" Group.
p.s. If we get enough signups we could get a second BMW-only group!
Haha, if you go, you'll see Miata's (down on power compared with M20 powered E30's) getting point-by's from 300hp+ cars. The lack of power is actually a blessing in disguise.
Come on, you know the driver has nothing to do with turning a fast lap.
It's all about mods and stickers.
Not directed to the OP, but I cannot understand why some people feel they need coilovers in order to attend a track day. The marketing folks have had their way with these people ;)
Btw, I just saw that there will be two races on the 28th at Willow. One will be a Miata Challenge, the other will be a Club Corvette Challenge. Should make for some great viewing between sessions!
p.s. I've tracked Mark's 325 at Willow and despite the obvious lack of power compared to anything with an "///M" on it, it was still a HELL of a lot of fun! So I don't want to hear any excuses about HP coming from any E30 owners
And a reminder: The event will be held rain or shine (not that it rains in Lancaster), and even if we don't get to 20 BMWs and hold our BMW-only run group the extra spots will simply be taken up by other cars...which we can then school
Also, Aaron will be holding a complimentary BBQ on Saturday night, for those of you driving up the night before. Details will be delivered via email after you register.

When driving Mark's 325 I particularly liked how quick it was gaining on other cars through 3 4 and 5. I was killing most other cars in my run group through there. Unfortunately they all pulled away on the 5-8 straight  Turn 2 was cool, because the car responds so precisely to throttle input. It also liked being thrown into 1 and balanced by the throttle in a slight drift, much like my Z4 MC. Turn 8 was irrelevant, just kept it pretty much floored and let the Gs take the speed off. Turn 9 was easy, compared to my MC; just brake, breath, turn and squeeze. In my MC I have to be very careful to modulate the brakes to keep a little load on the front tires without scrubbing too much (or too little) speed.
Yeah, 9 became fun once I realized that it's a decreasing radius turn. My fav is turn 2.
turn 2 was fun. It took me most of the day to get comfortable with actually going into the turn faster then you initially think you can. Fun course guys.
