I am hesitant to move the battery from the rear to the front... I feel at the rear that it will help offset some of my weight in the drivers seat. Is it not possible just to run a smaller gauge wire to the trunk, maybe a 4 gauge?

It's really easy to get weight out of the back of these cars... So I don't see why you're sweating the battery unless you have really cut the weight out of the front of the car.

        Balance is important... Really important.

But if you are absolutely insane about cutting weight and you get back to the battery and it's got to go as well, what we used to use were 2 motorcycle batteries in parallel (mounted in the front battery tray with an external boost lug)... Just enough to start a warm engine and smooth out the power from the alternator. But we're not talking 80's and early 90's DTM are we.

Beyond all that Braille makes a fine product.

I've been using a Deka ETX16L that I bought from Amazon for about $75. After extensive research I determined it was a good choice. Little sucker cranks my s50 over faster than the big ass battery that was in there before, and it always seems to have juice. A battery engineer told me to either disconnect it or use a battery tender if you don't use it for long periods of time and it can easily last 5 years.

we found a UPS truck back up battery that has juust enough cca to crank over our 13.5:1 race motor. I put one in my 16v rabbit and have only had a few chances to use it. held a charge great (bought it and installed it about a year later, and still fired the car right up), cranks fast, and is 13lbs. it cost about $40 shipped haha!

it doesn't do so great with hot starts. it will fire but it is very nerve racking...haha!

We use a Kinetick battery in our track car. Contact Barry at Performance Oil Store (www.PerformanceOilStore.com) for a Kinetick.

I thought you were going to get the ETX18L!

But then again... you are addicted to losing weight like the thin Olsen twin....
