I haven't tracked my E30 yet, but from my sportbike track days, this is PARAMOUNT (on the street as well).

You WILL go where you look.

I track my 2000 323i slushbox and nothing has broken yet in it

It's pretty hard to actually break stuff unless you do it every weekend or aren't careful

Friends don't let friends early apex.

Most important thing I've learn't is that when you're at the limit your car usually has more to give... push harder.

So far, I'd say it's my field of vision has increased many times over.

i would venture to say that most of the other skills being mentioned here, such as smoothness and line stem from vision. usually, not looking ahead far enough causes you to be off-line, miss your braking points, get you into the wrong spot on the track and then cause you to lift mid-corner and spin..

In my opinion the most important skill that you can take from the track is learning to keep you eyes way out in front of the car. Everything else flows from that skill. And this is the most common problem that I see in HPDE students.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Look at every corner station every time.

without a doubt - vision. Eyes up and way out in front.

So far, looking far ahead seems to be the best skill. At Streets of Willow there is one complex where I am entering one corner but looking at the next - an accurate track-out position is crucial for setting up the next... I'm going to start doing that all the time and all tracks :)
