    Driving/Seat Position

For the past two years I drove around on the street using the track driving/seat position. Over the weekend someone else drove my car and adjusted the seat. He's the same height and build as me, so I thought it weird that he changed the settings, then I realized it was set for track use. I really like the "relaxed" position that the guy set, but am wondering if I am doing myself a disservice by not using the track setting. Thoughts?

How many of you that drive your HPDE car on the street use your track driving/seat position on the street, too?

Every now and then I drive my car hard on the streets (when safe!) so the relaxed seat position doesn't work for me.

I typically recline 1 to 2 clicks for street from my auto-x position.

      sometimes one click back too.

only time it gets adjusted is on long road trips otherwise the driver's seats in all my vehicles are pretty straight-backed.

          adjustment
          what is this adjustment

In the race car we have it set reclined at a comfortable angle, but nice and close to the steering wheel and pedals. Everything is just at the right distance to grab and reach, not to far away, and the pedals are close enough yet far enough so we can maneuver around the pedals, or rest them on the cage/foot rest. We also use a more ergonomic seat, buddy club p1. And because its not FIA spec, we also have a brace on it.

I keep the seats in all of my vehicles set to a close approximation of a "race" setting (close to the wheel & pedals and upright). The hours I've spent in a race car make me feel less than comfortable in a "relaxed" seat position on the street.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Same for me. After putting in my fixed back seat in my track car, I slowly went from "gangsta position" in my daily driver to almost the same angle as my track seat. It's just naturally easier to control the car during my 80 miles per day commute. If I try to lean it back, I feel like I have no control at all, and I can't see anything.

I am usually in a a very upright position and about 2 clicks backs from my aggressive driving position.

I say aggressive driving cause I dont get a chance to track my car much

                      Interesting. Good discussion.
I cant drive with the seat up close and straight up as I like with my helmet on.
Even with sunroof open. I have "is" seats, I'm only 5 feet 3/4 inch?
So until I get some Spaco Evo II seats side mounts etc I have to tilt seat back a bit. :(
Thus I drive on street with it leaned back a bit more than I would like so I don't get that totally lost feeling when I go autoX and have to tilt it back a bit.
hmmm maybe I'll tilt em back up some more today to enjoy some spirited driving.

I keep my AutoX setting for street use. It's more comfortable, and I can see better.

                          • Balls of feet should be able to touch the angled area of the floorboard behind the pedals (this means your waist is close enough to the pedals so that your legs have enough leverage to brake and modulate effectively)
                          • Wrists should extend just past the steering wheel rim, allowing the hands to hang down (this means your torso is close enough to the wheel so that your arms have enough leverage to easily steer)
                          • Seat back should be tilted to allow your arms to bend at a 45 degree angle at the elbows
                          • Seat height should be set to allow approximately 4" between your helmet and headliner / roof

That's crazy! I am 5'9" and have plenty of headroom (I use the middle height setting on my sport seats)

Thanks for the feedback :D I've never driven with my seat in the Vanilla Ice position, so visibility has never been an issue. Interestingly enough, my rev matching and brake/throttle modulation improved significantly after sliding the seat back...

I'm 6'5", so my seat is pretty far back. When I reach my arm out, my wrist is even with the top of the steering wheel. I sit fairly upright to get a better view, and it is also better for my back.

I'm 6'5" with corbeau cr1 seats and normal locking slider, my helmet hits the headliner, it sucks and I'm currently looking for an alternative to sit lower.
