i had a rear wheel bearing go from "just a little road noise" to "shit that is a lot of slop.." just from 1 or 2 autocross events. I would be upset about not running as well but really you can't blame the guys. Running over your own wheel really really sucks.

Thanks for the replacement info guys, I am definitely going to do it myself. Just need to decide on buying or renting the puller.

I'm done bitching, it failed for a reason, I'll fix it, and post FTD at the first points event in 2 weeks (probably not, but I honestly have no idea what the competition level is around here).

You don't need a puller, the hub comes off pretty easily.

I will probably get the bearings on saturday, and try it without the getting puller first, thanks.

It's just a matter of cracking the ridiculously tight nut loose that you have to worry about. Hopefully you have an air impact.

Yep, they can get ugly quick. Mine were fine before a track day, and at the end of the track day the wheel was vibrating and it was howling when turning. If there is play, you don't want to be pushing the car.

Thanks for the tips, this really was pretty easy, I'm surprised I have never had to do this before. The first side was about an hour to do, half that for the next side. I went ahead and got the puller and it did make it easy, also I had to buy the 36mm thin wall socket from sears.

I used a 3' breaker bar for the nut and had no problems getting the old bearing off with the puller. The bad one did have some nasty chunks floating around in it, they both looked like they were due for replacement. The only trouble I had was getting the new one to slide on, but I found an effective way was to use the 36mm socket and a mallet to hammer it into place. I took a pic of this in case it might be helpful for anyone else. I didnt have a torque wrench that went high enough for the nut but the tabs line up from where it was before so I went until it was there, it's pretty damn tight. Also I used loctite red.

                Thanks again,
                Justin

I'm glad I decided to replace all 4 corners as a precautionary measure. Doing the rear ones now...
