Wheel Size Preference

Bringing this back from the dead, hopefully some people will chime in again. The 17s are gone, and I have some $$ to play with now that the weather is starting to get nicer (knock on wood). I'm still leaning toward 15x8 w/ 225/45 RS3s. Any reason now why I shouldn't? Any specials going on that I should jump on for wheels or tires? Would this setup have any clearance issues if you guys had to guess? This would be my main concern right now, clearance issues w/ GC coilovers

16s aren't really an option. With the $ I got from selling the 17s and tires, I can essentially pay in full plus shipping for the 15s and 225s from Tire Rack... I'm trying to keep costs down cause well, I'm in college, and I know car's as a hobby isn't the cheapest thing but I'm trying to do this as smart as I can. Plus 15s seem like a very popular size....

hmm i donno i just feel like 15 looks too small imo. they are quite popular and tires are cheaper.
if you go 15x8 and a 225 series i dont see you having any clearance issues.

I agree that 16s would probably look better, but this is mostly about going with what works and is going to be cheapest but still effective for track and autocross. Seems like more than enough people are just fine using 15s and 225 or similar sized high performance / dot r tires, and not just on e30s

I'd probably wait a little while. It may be a little early still for specials, and the manufacturers may still release some new tires before track season. They always seem to have better offers in the spring. You could always do the Tirerack wheel/tire package, look at the TRM C1s in 15x8, and they will mount and balance your tires for free. It sounds like some guys are fitting 225/50/15s on the C1s too.Comment

I was going to order from TR, the C1s in 15x8 and 225/45 RS3s, mounted and shipped to my door for what I got back selling my 17s and tires.

I recently went with this exact setup and am very happy with the price to performance ratio. I don't have a lot of miles on the tires but they seem to be holding up well and they've stuck nicely at 2 autocrosses.S50'd

TRM c1's, and they have moderately enough room for a bbk, some shaving will be requires if you get Massive's race kit. The street kit fits no problem.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Regarding the offset on the 15x7's, how much would you guys say the offset impacts handling/feel/etc., since there's lots to choose from 35-30-25-20-15-13 and others. Therefore you could widen the overall track gauge by about 4cm.
I just don't know if there is any noticable difference.Comment
