No I am meaning vs R-comps.
Again agreed, for an everyday tyre they are what I am looking for. I will be running 205/45/16 DD status with my BBS RS and for SCCA solox I will be using 225/50/15 rota slips maybe. Unsure as of now since I am building a set already...

The Hankook RS3 and the Z1 Star Spec are the kings of the affordable autox tire right now. The RS3 is super grippy, more so than the SS.Leave a comment:

eh, KDWs are good tires - nothing "ricey" about them. the tread pattern is optimized for rain. I wouldn't reccomend them on the basis of an autox tire though.Leave a comment:

not only that, but i always thought those tires had a 'ricey'-looking tread pattern- i.e., something that would impress guys who don't know any better.Agreed on R-comps, they are amazing =) I did not know if the OP was willing to drop coin for some though...OP just stated he wanted not too expensive tyres to autox. I think those or the star spec would do a fantastic job. I personally am getting the KDW2 because the tread is SICK!
direzza z1 star spec, potenza re01r, yoko ad08 -- now those are real tread patterns.Leave a comment:

You're giving up grip for a tread pattern?Agreed on R-comps, they are amazing =) I did not know if the OP was willing to drop coin for some though...OP just stated he wanted not too expensive tyres to autox. they are a great street tire, but not an autox tire. maybe for a slush series, as they're nice in the rain. but an R-comp in the rain is still better. :pLeave a comment:

How about the BFg T/A KDW 2? Those have awesome reviews. They might just be a great street tyre for summer and such.Leave a comment:

This thread asked specifically about autox tires. Traction T/As are mediocre all-seasons, they aren't even close to the same category.
not on Traction T/As. no way. maybe 0.8g.Leave a comment:

I used Kumho 710's on my e30 for autocross and they stuck like rats on glue traps.Leave a comment:

in a 17x8 your best choice for a street non-R-comp tire is the Dunlop star specs. I run these on my BBS wheels and they are almost as good as my Hoosier A06's were.
That being said if you are serious about auto-x get rid of your 17's and get some 15x8 wheels and then you can go with the Hankooks. They are just as good if not better than the Dunlops but they come in a 225/45-15 which the dunlops don't.
I switched to 17's when I wanted to run street tires since the widest 15" dunlop was a 205. Now that the Hankooks are out I'm going to slap a set on my 15x8 K1's and run them instead.Leave a comment:

I'm assuming you're talking about Kuhmo 712's? Yeah, those T1r, BFG G-Force sports, yoko AVS, etc are all "sports" tires and carry a 300 tread wear and last you over 20,000 miles. If someone mentions "autoX" tire I tend to think they want the most grip they can get and the above selection will not provide it. Sorry.
You'll lose about 1-2 sec as per GRM "Cheap Skates" tire test. These are the "sport" tires of today up against an "autoX" tire that was outdated at the time. I had Potenza RE01's on my Type-R Integra in 2000, and my 2000 S2000. :)
