Your 3.91 is most likely from an Ix since that is the only way we got them here in the US.
That means its a viscous LSD and will never act the same as a regular LSD with a clutch pack.
That is why people don't run the IX LSD in regular cars. ;)

how does a viscous feel different from a clutch pack? mx-5s came with viscous diffs and you seem them all over motorsports.

3.91 lsd came on early 318s as well.

from what I HEAR, the BMW viscous aren't as predictable on when and what there going to do, but that could be totally wrong Ive never driven one hard before

Thats not a viscous lsd. Its a standard clutch pack.
It may have come from an M3 but it was a Euro M3 not a US one as all we got were the 4.10.
Could have easily come from a regular Euro 325i as the 3.91 was standard.
Either way its a regular LSD.

Only the 90-93 1.6 Miatas had the Viscous LSD option, all 94+ models came with a Torsen if it was equipped with LSD. Yes, you do see some 1.6 Miatas in motorsports, but most of what you see are the ones with Torsens.

Viscous diffs are different because they almost need to slip first in order to lock up, they don't have that instant "grab" feel of a clutch or Torsen diff. Also, the material wears out over time, so you get a lot of difference between an old one & a new one, & they can't be rebuilt...once they are worn it's time for a new one. At least this is my experience with the Miatas...never had an iX ;)

I agree ^ Plus good quick hands, not crossing over on the wheel, minimal understeer, nice traction. Looks fun.
