s50 in an e30 - track application

    I don't use rope or compressed air. I just bring each cylinder pair so that one is at TDC. At that point the valve has a maximum of a few millimeters to fall.

    It used to be a cheap job, when you could get a set of 24 spring plates and 48 split collet retainers for around $110.

    Now the same parts are around $300, IIRC.

          But then don't you have to compress the spring that much more to get the locks in?

              That's funny.

              Since you have the pan off, baffle the e34 pan, safety wire the oil pump nut, and change the rod bearings. If the motor has seen low oil pressure ever, the rod bearings will have gone dry, and will be worn. Super duper easy and fun to do, and great piece of mind on track. The bolts are TTY, so get new ones.

              Don't use a victor reinz gasket anywhere.

              Retainers are a good thing, unless you want to drop a valve so you have an excuse to build up an s52 later. :)

                Does the m50 have the same valve retainers as the s50? So any 24v before 10/95 would have the bad retainers then?
