LOL yep, one of their reps told me years ago to basically just keep doing 60-0 (or faster) stops until the Ultimates are totally burning and smoking and reeking... then don't even touch the brake pedal for at least 10-15 minutes.

The way I've always done this... is on an empty highway, at night. ;-)

    YMMV, etc.

I cant tell if youre joking/being sarcastic or not.

      YMMV?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

I broke in three sets of Ultimates via that method and put 'em through road course hell shortly thereafter... never had a problem.

You guys are all WAYYYYYY off... first off PAGIDS SUCK ASS... Ultimates are good pads after you warm them but do dust wayyyyy too much... the best pads on earth are either Panther Plus or Bobcats... either isn't cheap but stop GREAT even in the cold... for stock sized rotors on our cars you dont need ANY more stopage...

Also try a brand out of California called Rotex... they are a track pad made for autocrossing... I'm running them now and however not quite as powerful as Panthers or Bobcats they come close and have lasted FOREVER. I give them 7 out of 10 on the OH SHIT! meter(same as Ultimates) and they dont dust AT ALL! The best part... they were only $30 a set!!!

ferodo pads + ATE slotted rotors has made a awesome brake setup in my 318is and 325is.

                ferodo FTW..

Late response here, but I've been running the PBR vs. of the Axxis Ultimates for about a year? and I am not that impressed with them. They absolutely DO require some warm-up before they begin to bite good, and even then, I feel it is just not quite good enough. I most likely will try Hawk HPS next time around. Oh, and in my experience, they don't really dust that bad, at least not the set I have. ?

The rest of my setup is:
                  Stainless steel brake lines
                  ATE Powerslot rotors
Motul 600 fluid (waste of money for my application, won't do that again)

Actually, mine are the Axxis Ultimates, not the PBR.

ATE fluid is more than enough, especially given the cost VS Motul 600. but it looks like you figured that out :P

That would be a big mistake... hawks aren't that great either and you DEFINITELY wont get much improvement over your last set up...

I think a big problem you could be having would be your rotors... ATE slotted are very overrated rotors... I have heard many people say that any Brembo rotor would out-perform ATE's. Brembo is really the way to go anyways...

I HAVE driven a car with ATE's and axis ultimates vs. my set-up of brembo solids with multiple pad set-ups and the ATE/Axxis didn't hold a prayer comparitively. I however have NOT ever tried Zimmerman but you might want to give them a shot as well...

Now, I can't speak from E30 experience, as I'm still looking to buy one (doh!), but I had an SCCA Spec-B prepped RX-7 for a period of time, running Hawk pads, and it was wonderful. Bit well cold, and even better warm. Dusted a fair bit, though, but held up to a track day pretty darn well. Never had brake fade (but did have SS brake lines as well, to be fair).

Just my non-E30 advice. Worth what you paid for it :P

Man, this is a long thread.

Hawk HP+ up front with HPS in the rear. Run some decent fluid, ATE gold or blue with whatever good OEM quality rotor you can find. Namely Brembo or Balo. Don't fuck around with the little fru-fru slotted or cross drilled nonsense, OEM spec stuff is 24-30 bucks. Wash your wheels once a week and enjoy good braking characteristics. Good for aggressive street usage, autox, and mild tracking/HPDE.

All the same thing. Repco Premium? (red box?) = Axxis Ultimate (silver box) = PBR Ceramic (black box.)

Also, the PBR "XPG" in the blue box are the same as the old Axxis Metal Masters.
