Making awesome progress for getting cage material on friday!

Step 1: Car on the ground. 12/28

    Step 2: Main hoop 12/28

    Step 3: Rear half 12/29

    Step 4: Front half 12/30

Not much more to go! I think it's possible that we'll be able to knock 90% of the cage out by the 1st.

Anyways.. Progress slowed a bit due to new year's, but I definitely can't complain with what we've gotten done so far! The rest of the tubes that need to go in have already been cut to length, so they just need to be notched and fitted, then it's on to dimple plates.

Are there many ways to build a cage? Are there advantages/disadvantages to doing it certain ways?

There are many ways to build a cage, assuming they all meet the minimum rule requirements, with varrying advantages and disadvantages. One benefit may be increased chassis torsional rigidity at the compromise of overall car weight/center or gravity of the car depending on where the reinforcement is. There seems to be a few "standard" cage designs out there. This cage encompasses a few of the standard features, but also includes some unique design characteristics. The chassis will most certainly be stiff.

It should also be good and safe as well!

Drivers door bar and harness bar have also been welded in, but only after I left the shop.

Wow that some serious tubing. Does Spec E30 have a Max limit on weight or you just want the extra reinforcement?

There's a minimum weight of 2700 lbs (with driver). My car weighed in with the s50, 5 lug, 17's etc at 2695 lbs with me in it and a full interior. So I knew I needed some weight.

We've used the cage to partially ballast the chassis as well as increase safety. Believe it or not there's only a hair more than 80' of 1-3/4" tubing for the entire cage.
